The lighthouse project was approved in 1907. By 1909, the tower and its service buildings — the keeper’s house, storehouse, ice cellar, bathhouse and woodshed — had been completed. A French third-order Fresnel apparatus made by Barbier, Benard & Terenne was installed in 1910.

The red sector warned ships about the London Shoal, while the white sector marked the main fairway. Its light was visible for about 17 nautical miles, at a focal height of 38 metres.

During the Second World War, the 71-kilometre “Small Road of Life” to Seskar and Lavansaari began here. The lighthouse remains active today. Access to the compound is restricted, so visitors should view it from the coast and follow all posted signs.
