The lower section offers a gradual start before woodland gives way to more open terrain. The character of the area is especially clear in wooded lower slopes, mountain meadows and rocky ground. Getting there

Without a car

Travel by train to Grenoble or Briançon, then continue by regional bus to La Grave, Bourg-d’Oisans, Vallouise or another settlement near the trailhead. A taxi may be required for a remote trailhead.

By car

Use the A480/N85, then the D1091 or local valley roads to the trail area. High passes and hut approaches are seasonal.

Parking

Park in official areas in the valley villages, beside cable cars or at signed entrances to Écrins National Park.
