Route at a glance

The lower section offers a gradual start before woodland gives way to more open terrain. Along the way, wooded lower slopes, mountain meadows and rocky ground are revealed one section at a time. Particular attention should be given to Augustów Forest, Rówienki, Gronik and Augustów Canal. These are the places that give the route its recognisable character.

Getting there

Without a car

Travel by train to Białystok or Augustów, then continue by regional bus to the start near the trailhead. When travelling with a bicycle, check carriage rules and capacity in advance.

By car

Use the S8/DK8 and then local roads in the Augustów area. Approach forest and canal sections only on public roads.

Parking

Leave the car at a station, lock, visitor centre or municipal car park.

Difficult sections and safety

Long climbs and descents can slow the pace considerably, especially on wet or rocky ground. Download an offline map and tell someone when you expect to return.

Best time: June–September, when the main trails are usually clear of lasting snow
