Route at a glance

The lower section offers a gradual start before woodland gives way to more open terrain. An unhurried pace leaves time to notice wooded lower slopes, mountain meadows and rocky ground rather than focusing only on the finish. The main line of the experience is formed by Lauterbrunnen Valley, Nodkhal'ten, Bernese Oberland and Korotkiy Alpiyskiy Nad Grindelvaldom. They are spaced through the journey so that the area reveals itself gradually.

Getting there

Without a car

Travel by train to Interlaken Ost, then continue on the local railway to Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald or Wengen, depending on the trailhead. The final approach to the trailhead is by train, bus, cable car or on foot.

By car

Drive on the A8 to Interlaken, then use the valley roads to Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald. Wengen and several high-mountain villages are not open to normal private traffic.

Parking

Park at an official car park beside Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald station, or at the lower terminal of the relevant cable car.
