Even the connecting sections remain engaging because of coastal paths, exposed headlands and sheltered bays. The main line of the experience is formed by Pokhoda po Morskomu khrebtu. Buses and minibuses run from Irkutsk via Bayanday and Yelantsy to Sakhyurta and Khuzhir; the Olkhon crossing is seasonal. Pre-book a local transfer for the trailhead near the trailhead. Because the start and finish are in different places, check the return service in advance, arrange a transfer or leave a second vehicle near the finish.

Drive via the Kachug road, then through Bayanday and Yelantsy to the ferry at Sakhyurta. Olkhon’s gravel roads require care, and off-road driving is prohibited. Parking
Leave the car in an official area in Khuzhir, at a tourist base or beside an authorised trailhead. Use only signed parking zones near capes and beaches.

Difficult sections and safety
