The lower section offers a gradual start before woodland gives way to more open terrain. The character of the area is especially clear in wooded lower slopes, mountain meadows and rocky ground. The main line of the experience is formed by Gorge Aktru, Kol'tso Sukhanova (Gorge Aktru and Vokrug. They are spaced through the journey so that the area reveals itself gradually.

Getting there

Without a car
Reach Gorno-Altaysk by air or coach, then continue by scheduled bus or transfer via Ust-Koksa to Tyungur. From Tyungur, approach the trailhead on foot or horseback.
By car
From Gorno-Altaysk, follow the R-256 Chuysky Trakt, then continue via Ust-Kan and Ust-Koksa towards Tyungur. The final sections are unpaved and require extra time.
Parking
Leave the car in guarded parking at a tourist base in Tyungur or Kucherla. Arrange long-stay parking in advance for a multi-day trek.

Difficult sections and safety
