The lower section offers a gradual start before woodland gives way to more open terrain. Even the connecting sections remain engaging because of wooded lower slopes, mountain meadows and rocky ground. Particular attention should be given to Augustów Forest, Polana Strążyska, Dolina Strążyska and Augustów Canal. These are the places that give the route its recognisable character.

Travel by train to Białystok or Augustów, then continue by regional bus to the start near the trailhead. When travelling with a bicycle, check carriage rules and capacity in advance. Because the start and finish are in different places, check the return service in advance, arrange a transfer or leave a second vehicle near the finish.
