Regional buses serve Kamenka, but the GPX start may be a considerable distance from the stop and close to areas with restricted access. The final approach will require a walk or a pre-booked taxi. Before setting out, compare the start coordinates with a current map, check the timetable and confirm that the selected access road is open to civilian visitors.
By car
Navigate to the GPX start coordinates rather than searching only for “Mannerheim Line”, as the fortifications extend across a large part of the Karelian Isthmus. The last section uses local and forest roads. Do not continue past barriers, military-area signs or no-entry notices, and never try to bypass a closure through the forest. Access conditions must be checked shortly before the trip.
Parking
No confirmed official car park is available at the GPX start. Leave the vehicle only in a legal pull-off or permitted area outside restricted land, without blocking the road or driving onto the forest floor.

Difficult sections and safety

The main risks come from the condition of the wartime structures and possible access restrictions rather than steep terrain. Do not enter ruined bunkers or underground spaces: they may contain shafts, standing water, exposed reinforcement bars and unstable ceilings. Keep away from deep ditches and crater edges hidden by vegetation. Never touch unknown metal objects, ammunition or battlefield debris. Do not dig or remove finds. If you see a suspicious object, retrace your steps, keep others away and call the emergency number 112. Forest roads can be wet, overgrown or blocked by fallen trees. Stay within the publicly accessible GPX corridor and turn back immediately if warning signs or barriers appear.

Best time to go

May to October is generally the easiest period. Forest roads may flood in spring and after heavy rain; tall vegetation, mosquitoes and ticks are common in summer; daylight becomes short in late autumn.
The fortification relief is easier to see outside the leafy season, but wet leaves, ice and concealed pits increase the risk. A winter visit is suitable only with strong navigation skills and confirmed public access.
