Подготовка к маршруту

Route at a glance

The trail combines a quiet forest walk with the history of Staraya Ladoga and its convent. Within a short distance, the village atmosphere gives way to woodland and a secluded site with a strong spiritual association. It is an especially good addition to a visit to the fortress and convent.

Getting there

Without a car
Regional buses run from Volkhov to Staraya Ladoga. From the village, walk toward the convent side and the official trailhead. Check direct and connecting services before travelling, as timetables can change. The GPX is linear. Plan to walk back the same way or arrange collection at a legally accessible point near the far end.
By car
Drive to Staraya Ladoga and use public access roads serving the Holy Dormition Convent and the official trailhead. Do not drive into the forest. For a one-way walk, confirm in advance whether the far end can legally be reached by vehicle without violating the protected-area regime.
Parking
Use legal public parking in Staraya Ladoga. Do not block the convent entrance, residential access or service roads. No confirmed guarded car park is available beside the forest section of the trail.

What to expect

Staraya Ladoga and the Holy Dormition Convent near the start
A forest road through Abramov Forest
Developed crossings and interpretation elements
The Abramovshchina tract on a high wooded hill
A site associated with Schema-Abbess Evpraksia
A linear trail requiring a return along the same route

Difficult sections and safety

The walk is easy, but soil, wooden structures and steps may be slippery after rain. Roots and uneven ground occur in the forest, with ticks and mosquitoes common in summer. The main practical issue is the linear GPX. Do not plan only for a three-kilometre walk unless collection is arranged at the finish: an out-and-back visit is about 6.7 km. Keep quiet around the convent and associated religious sites, avoid disrupting services and follow the current rules for the spring or bathing facility if they are open.

How much time to allow

Расчётное время маршрута 1 h 4 min

Расчёт учитывает дистанцию и набор высоты. Добавьте запас на отдых, погоду и навигацию.

Best time to go

May to October is the most comfortable period. The forest road can be wet in spring and after rain; tick protection and repellent are needed in summer; daylight becomes short in autumn.
A winter visit is possible, but steps and wooden crossings may be icy. Snow can also make navigation and timing less predictable.

What to bring

footwear with a non-slip sole
water and a small snack
insect repellent and tick protection
an offline map and the GPX
rain protection
modest clothing when visiting the convent and religious sites
a light during short daylight periods
