Route description

The Fréaux woodland occupies the mountain side of the Romanche opposite La Grave. Its larches give the walk a different character from the open Alpine pastures above the village: trunks, roots and the rising switchback path hold the attention. On the return, Torrent de l’Abéous appears beside a footbridge crossing. It offers a place to pause over the mountain stream while remaining on the safe side of barriers. In autumn, the larches change colour before shedding their needles. This selected outing revisits parts of familiar paths and ends back in La Grave; treat it as a substantial woodland day rather than a short waterfall stroll.
