Route description

Leaving Lchashen, this journey heads away from the inhabited side of Lake Sevan towards Lake Akna. The Gegham Mountains reveal themselves gradually: roads among rounded slopes give way to open country, with little to distract from the distant outline of the hills. On a clear day, pause to look back towards Sevan before continuing into the upland meadows. Akna is the focus of the trek. Reaching the water after several walking days, taking off your pack and quietly looking around the shore feels different from arriving for a brief excursion. A leisurely evening here is appealing when the weather permits. This is a self-supported journey: plan water, overnight stops and the way home before setting out. The route finishes beside Akna, so onward travel needs a separate arrangement.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - With caution With a dog - With caution By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - Patchy Experience of independent overnight trekking is needed. Children need the same preparation for a sustained walk. Livestock guardian dogs around summer camps may complicate encounters with a pet; discuss the situation with a local guide.

Nearby

Sarisurb stands near the northern part of the journey, but reaching its summit is a separate detour. Continuing towards Azhdahak is another mountain trek requiring a new plan. Save a walk beside Lake Sevan for before leaving Lchashen or after returning.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The published TCT access plan lists a minibus from Yerevan to Sevan. Check the current departure point and luggage arrangements with the operator. Arrange travel onwards to Lchashen and the return from Akna separately; a direct scheduled service to the lake has not been confirmed.
By car
Agree a drop-off in Lchashen. A personal trekking report also describes access to the end of a dirt road before the quarry outside the village; check its condition and the exact meeting point. Do not assume that access to Akna continues as an ordinary passenger-car journey.
Parking
Official parking for this journey is unconfirmed. Ask a host or local services whether a vehicle may be stored at the chosen location throughout the trip. Request the conditions and permission before departure.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceDirt / grass 1%, Unknown 99%.
Риски Dirt-road junctions and the absence of confirmed waymarking require independent navigation. Carry enough water for the northern approach: a mapped pool or herders’ camp does not guarantee replenishment. Purify water from Akna. Avoid exposed high ground during thunderstorms and allow for waiting out bad weather.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 15 h 48 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow several trekking days with overnight stops rather than a single-day return walk. Divide the journey around reliable places to rest and check water beforehand. Keep the final day for reaching Akna; contingency time for weather and a separately organised return is especially valuable.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Summer, particularly July to early September. Check snow conditions and the forecast for the whole trek. Water on the northern approach is less dependable late in summer, while autumn snowfall can change plans. A clear morning is a useful opportunity to cross open slopes.
