Route description

This mountain outing links all three Dukka lakes: Rybka, Arkasarskoye and, beyond the pass, Caucasus Tale. Beginning beside the lower Dukka bridge, it leaves the vehicle approach behind and follows the Malaya Dukka towards the upper basins. Each lake has its own setting, making the outing more than a single waterside stop. After the third lake, the path descends to a mountain junction; returning down the valley to the lower start remains a separate part of the day.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
Choose this version to see the whole named trio instead of stopping at Rybka. Caucasus Tale Pass connects two different lake basins and gives the upper part a mountain-crossing character. It suits walkers who want a day in the Malaya Dukka headwaters and have energy for the rocky crossing and the subsequent return.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car: Hard With children: With caution With a dog: No data By bike: No With a stroller: No Mobile signal: Poor A private transfer is possible without your own car, but the lower start is outside the village. Children need previous mountain-walking experience and stamina for the steep link between lakes. This full version is tiring for young children. Using a bike on the lower approach does not make the upper walk a cycling route. Dog rules are unverified; do not depend on a signal in the valley.

Nearby

Seven-Colour Lake belongs to the neighbouring Bolshaya Dukka valley and is not one of this walk’s three lakes. It needs a different outing from the lower junction. Higher summits and additional small lakes around the pass are also outside the described sequence; adding them requires a new plan.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
No scheduled bus directly to the lower beginning is verified. Local drivers offer private transfers from Arkhyz into the Dukka valley; arrange the drop-off and return meeting beforehand. A transfer to the Malaya Dukka shepherd’s hut creates a shorter walking version, omitting the lower valley approach.
By car
The beginning is beside the turn-off from the paved road before the Dukka bridge, west of Arkhyz resort. The firsthand account describes access to this lower point by an ordinary car. The continuation towards the shepherd’s hut is described for off-road transfers, rather than as dependable ordinary-car access. Check the bridge and road conditions before travelling; the upper lakes are reached on foot.
Parking
Current authorised parking arrangements at the lower beginning are unverified. Photographs of open areas do not establish parking permission. Before arriving, ask where you may leave a vehicle for the whole outing and keep access to the bridge clear.

What to expect

Places
Malaya Dukka River the watercourse beside the approach to the lakes.
Lake Rybka the first Dukka lake reached in this direction.
Arkasarskoye Lake the next mountain basin before the pass climb.
Caucasus Tale Pass the rocky crossing linking the two lake basins.
Caucasus Tale Lake the third lake stop before descending to the path junction.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The upper link is more demanding than following the river: steep rocky slopes and loose stones occur here. Wet rock and lingering snow slow progress. Assess conditions before climbing towards the pass; poor visibility or uncertain footing are reasons to turn back from a lake already reached. Stay off lake ice and avoid the edges of remaining snow patches.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 3 h 15 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Reserve a full day of daylight and begin early. Plan the lower valley approach, three lakes and pass crossing together with the return. After Caucasus Tale Lake, the path reaches a junction above the shepherd’s hut, so your vehicle meeting must allow for the remaining descent. Set a turnaround time beforehand and shorten the upper programme if the valley approach takes longer than expected.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
July to September offers the clearest first-visit window when weather is settled and the pass is snow-free. Snow can remain higher up after Rybka has opened. Autumn brings shorter days and possible morning ice on rocks. Choose the actual outing date using fresh information about the upper crossing.
