Route description

Raigorod’s historical international continuation through Raigardas is closed: verified official notices show that the crossing is not operating, so a Grodno–Druskininkai journey on this road cannot be planned. The Belarusian section introduces the Neman north of Pyshki, Gozha and the border-area surroundings of Privalka. In Gozha, Saints Peter and Paul Church gives a reason to stop; farther on, Zatoka Lake is a quiet river oxbow. Build this as a separate outing on permitted Belarusian-side roads, with a turnaround and return arranged in advance. Its appeal is the transition from the city’s riverbank to rural Neman country, rather than reaching a closed frontier.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
The start is accessible from the city, but the complete old international version is unavailable. Cycling applies to agreed permitted stages; the complete border-area outing is not recommended for children or strollers. Current dog rules and mobile reception across the complete itinerary are unverified.

Nearby

Druskininkai was the historical international corridor’s destination, but it is not currently reachable as a continuation through Raigardas. Grodno’s museum Old and New Castles can be visited separately. Travelling into Lithuania needs another currently permitted crossing mode and an independent plan.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The start is in the urban Pyshki area on Grodno’s side, approachable on foot from the city. Current direct transport to the precise point and bicycle carriage are unverified. Arrange the return from the northern section in advance; do not plan transport through closed Raigardas.
By car
The city approach to Pyshki suits a Belarusian-side start. Agree access and a driver meeting point in the border area separately, accounting for current controls. The closed Privalka–Raigardas crossing cannot be used to continue into Lithuania.
Parking
A dedicated car park for this long version has not been confirmed. Choose a lawful city space near the start; arrange northern pickup on an accessible road outside the controlled crossing area.

What to expect

Places
Saints Peter and Paul Church in Gozha Gozha’s Catholic church stands beside the local road, offering an architectural stop viewed from outside.
Zatoka Lake Zatoka is a Neman-country oxbow lake; enjoy the water from a safe accessible bank, without assuming an equipped beach.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 990 м.
SurfaceAsphalt 62%, Improved surface 14%, Dirt 1%, Unknown 22%.
Риски The principal restriction is closed Raigardas: Lithuania closed it from 1 March 2024, and an official August 2026 notice still describes it as closed. Do not treat the frontier as an ordinary visitor finish or bypass control. Permitted local roads still involve cars, dirt sections and river slopes; view old fortifications from outside.

How much time to allow

Расчётное время в пути 14 h 38 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Plan | A multi-day journey over separately confirmed sections Reserve daylight for a separate ride on permitted Belarusian sections, divided into stages chosen in advance. A Pyshki–Gozha outing with a stop and return, for example, requires its own calculation on the road selected. Add continuation towards Privalka only over confirmed accessible sections and with return transport agreed beforehand. The old international time to Druskininkai does not apply.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Dry weather from late spring to early autumn is more convenient for rural riding and waterside stops. Avoid slippery bank approaches after rain. The crossing closure is not a seasonal pause: exclude international continuation unless an official reopening authorisation is published.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
A reliable bicycle, helmet, lights and repair kit.
Enough water and food for the agreed stage.
Identification, charged phone and a saved map.
Rain protection and an agreed turnaround and return point.
