Подготовка к маршруту

Route at a glance

The contrast between clear-looking water, sandy banks, pine forest and wetland margins creates an unusual landscape for the flat Leningrad Region. The reserve also supports many breeding bird species. It is a short independent nature walk, but visitors must respect the protected-area rules and avoid turning the shore into an informal campsite.

Getting there

Without a car
Novinka railway station is the nearest practical public-transport point. The trailhead is still several kilometres away by local roads, so check the walking approach or arrange a taxi in advance. Suburban trains are infrequent. Select the return service before setting out and do not rely on being able to call a car from the shore if signal is weak.
By car
Drive toward Novinka settlement or station, then use the official trail map and GPX start for the final approach. The last roads may be unpaved and wet after rain. Do not use informal sandy tracks down to the water or park on protected vegetation.
Parking
Use the area at the official trail entrance near the waste container if it is open. Parking is unguarded and seasonal ground conditions vary. Do not block the forest road or park on sandy slopes beside the water.

What to expect

A water-filled former sand quarry
Reed-fringed shores
Pine and mixed woodland
Meadow plants
Birdlife of the wider bog system
Sandy and unpaved paths
Heavily visited sections near the water

Difficult sections and safety

Steep, unstable sandy edges occur around the quarry. Keep away from drop-offs, do not descend loose slopes and never leave children unsupervised near the water. The site is not confirmed as a supervised beach, so do not assume lifeguards or a checked bottom. Forest roads soften after rain, while roots and wooden elements become slippery. Ticks and mosquitoes are common in summer. The area receives heavy visitor pressure. Use the entrance container if available and carry out all remaining litter. Fires and pollution are prohibited in the reserve.

Best time to go

May to September is the most attractive period. The shore is busiest in summer, while tracks are wet in spring and after rain. Autumn can be cold and windy beside the water.
Never walk onto quarry ice in winter, as its thickness and condition are not officially monitored.

What to bring

footwear for sand and wet ground
water
insect repellent and tick protection
a sun hat and sunscreen
an offline map and the GPX
a power bank
a bag for carrying out litter
