Route description

This winter version is associated with the Karelia Ski Fest Ladoga Trophy ski marathon. Its beginning lies on the shore beside White Bridges Base in Pitkyaranta District, and the finish is near the Sortavala pier. The course passes through the Ladoga Skerries’ waters, shaped by island shores and open lake space. This sustained ski outing connects different places and requires access and return arrangements beforehand. Beside Ruotsinsaari, observe the actual island from a permitted winter passage without expecting a landing or a separate walk on land. Shore directions and island surroundings change before the town’s pier area appears towards the finish. Wind, light and the space between sheltered shores are particularly noticeable in winter; appropriate conditions and understood arrangements bring out the outing’s appeal. Ice determines whether the selected course can be completed. The organiser and marathon series explicitly allow changes according to ice conditions and seal protection. Obtain current confirmation of an organised permitted passage for this version. Frost, the winter calendar and earlier use do not establish safety. Prepare skis, independent supplies and an agreed return; event food, transfers and support have separate terms.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data Long-distance ski preparation and an organised ice-passage assessment are required. Car-free arrival needs agreed transport and return. The full version is unsuitable for family walks, cycling and strollers. Dog access and continuous reception are unestablished; park permission does not replace permitted safe ice passage.

Nearby

Koirinoja waterfalls, land viewpoints, quarries and shore-cape excursions require independent approaches and are not automatically part of the ski passage. Island interior visits, Sortavala museums and Valaam travel are separate plans too. White Bridges services, meals and race facilities require their own arrangements. This saved winter version does not establish the next event’s approved course.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The organiser provides for agreed participant transport from Sortavala to White Bridges Base. This is an event service, rather than a verified scheduled journey to the shore beginning. Confirm the boarding location, start transport, winter permission and post-finish return for your date. Agree returning to the beginning separately; the finish lies elsewhere.
By car
Prepare land arrival at White Bridges Base, independently positioned by the organiser. It lies near the selected shore beginning; assess the final approach, current entrance and access terms separately. Leave a car on permitted land. The ice-based ski course is not a vehicle passage, and finishing in Sortavala requires separate transport back to your car.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Establish permitted land parking by the base and terms for leaving a car during the outing. Accommodation or event entry does not establish every parking place. Avoid shore passages, service entrances and lake ice. Arrange the return from Sortavala separately.

What to expect

Places
Ruotsinsaari beside the Winter Passage the actual islet beside the selected course, observed externally from a permitted checked route without promising a landing.
Sortavala Finish Pier the actual pier beside the ski-course finish; agree winter shore-exit arrangements.
Lake Ladoga in the Skerry Passage the actual waters of the winter course, whose ice conditions determine passage.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 43 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Avoid unconfirmed ice and treating earlier courses as proof of safety. Check current municipal prohibitions, the organiser’s decision, ice conditions and park permission before travelling. Open water, cracks, ice movement, wind, snow and reduced visibility can change conditions. Stay away from seals and their shelters: organisers may alter the course for wildlife protection. A sustained outing requires preparation, supplies and agreed support. Food, insurance, luggage transport and assistance apply only under event terms. Do not plan the entire outing without confirmed winter passage.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 10 h 24 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Time for the route | Unestablished With stops | Unestablished Overall time for the selected winter course is unestablished: ice conditions, the organiser’s decision and participant preparation determine access and planning. Event finish schedules do not time independent outings. Add shore arrival, preparation, waiting and the Sortavala return separately. If the permitted winter direction changes, revise the plan with the organiser.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
This is a winter ski version requiring confirmed permitted ice passage. Even midwinter does not establish stable ice across the entire water area; ice formation and breakup are particularly hazardous. Check access, restrictions and the event decision immediately before travel. Spring prohibitions and weather changes can exclude passage. Summer completion of this ski version is not provided for.
