Route description

This Palha Carga passage climbs from the Levada das 25 Fontes towards the stepped path above the Rabaçal valley. Beside the water channel the scene feels intimate; higher up, the slope gives the walk a broader island perspective. It suits walkers who want to follow a levada visit with a purposeful climb. The walk ends at an upper path junction, so allow a separate road connection. Book your visit and check the current PR 13.1 status before setting out.

Nearby

Select other Rabaçal walks separately, following permitted directions. A booking for one visit does not automatically confirm access to every neighbouring trail.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car

Arrange delivery to a suitable road entrance and collection after the climb. Confirm the final meeting time with your driver before leaving.
By car
Vehicle access directly to the levada departure is not confirmed. Choose a permitted road entrance for the Rabaçal area and plan the walking approach separately. Upper Palha Carga Junction is also away from a road collection point; allow the additional connection. Keep vehicles off pedestrian trails.
Parking
There is no confirmed parking information for the immediate departure. Leave your car only in a permitted place at your chosen road entrance after checking signs. Arrange the return from the upper side so that another climb or descent does not become an unexpected addition.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 474 м.
SurfaceDirt 54%, Unknown 46%.
Риски The stepped Palha Carga climb provides the main effort. Keep a steady pace and retain energy for the connection beyond the upper junction. Wet steps and stone beside the channel require grippy footwear and careful movement. Respect closed branches and expect slippery surfaces after rain.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 h 26 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow 1–1.5 hours for this uphill passage with short stops. This is an editorial uphill allowance; the official duration of the usual downhill direction cannot simply be transferred to it. Add the starting approach, cascade visit and final road connection separately. When combining it with PR 6, check the current direction rules.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose settled weather with good visibility. After heavy rain, check steps and entry restrictions. Bring wind protection and an extra layer for Rabaçal even when the coast is warm. In thick mist, leave additional time to check junctions carefully.
