Route description

The loop from Noviki links village roads beside Sapotskin with the Augustów Canal and defences of the Grodno Fortified Region. Dombrovka Lock is the main waterside stop: view its chamber from the bank, then see the lock keeper’s house and a concrete pillbox beside the onward road. Nineteenth-century water engineering and military remains give the ride substance without entering museum rooms. This extended version repeats passages and returns to Noviki. Its departure differs from the short official lock-side loop, so assess its timing independently. View concrete ruins from outside; descending into dark interiors is outside the programme. Establish current access conditions for this border district before travelling.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - With caution With a dog - No By bike - Yes With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data Children need confident riding on roads carrying motor traffic. Supervise them continuously near lock chambers and ruins; the entire extended outing does not suit a short stroller walk.

Nearby

Górski Manor in Radzivilki lies off this loop and needs an additional approach and agreed admission. The central Sapotskin church also stands outside the actual passage. Viewing the lock keeper’s house from outside does not guarantee museum entry.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 142 м.
SurfaceAsphalt 61%, Improved surface 17%, Dirt 3%, Unknown 17%.
Риски Pay particular attention on village roads, at junctions and beside water. Ruined defences may contain drops and sharp debris. Rain makes unpaved margins slippery; repeated passages add effort and must leave enough daylight for the return.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 2 h 11 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow a daylight outing for the extended loop and Dombrovka pauses. The full duration of this particular version is unconfirmed. Museum admission or a separate manor visit needs additional time.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Dry snow-free weather is easier for cycling. More visitors gather beside the lock in warm months, so reduce speed. Autumn travel needs a generous daylight margin for the Noviki return.
