Route description

From the Fer à Cheval road bend, a woodland path leads towards Radule’s sheepfolds. Beyond the pastoral buildings, the walk turns to the Golo: a wooden footbridge crosses the river before the mountain path passes beside Radule Waterfall. The return on the other side brings these places together into a short introduction to inland Corsica, with woodland, pastoral history and water moving through a stony riverbed. Small return passages form part of this circuit. Take time beside the sheepfolds and waterfall, with particular care on wet rocks.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
The walk reveals mountain Corsica in one unhurried outing. Radule’s sheepfolds provide a human story, while the river and waterfall show an island landscape beyond its beaches. The change from woodland into the open stony river setting is especially noticeable. Choose it to explore the Vergio area when comfortable with uneven mountain paths.

Nearby

Col de Vergio and other GR20 sections are separate outings. This circuit uses only local portions of the mountain paths. Ask locally about any cheese or drink sales at the sheepfolds rather than relying on service. A spring beside the wider path area is not confirmed as drinking water; carry your own supply.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Regular service directly to the selected road departure is not confirmed. Without a car, prearrange a transfer with drop-off and collection at the Fer à Cheval bend on D84. Agree the exact location with the driver: arrival at Col de Vergio adds a separate approach. Allow a collection margin for walking and pauses.
By car
Follow D84 to the large Fer à Cheval bend below Col de Vergio. Continue to the sheepfolds on foot. Check the departure location on arrival to avoid substituting another approach from the pass. In colder months, check mountain road conditions and weather restrictions.
Parking
A small parking area lies beside the bend. It can fill in summer, so arrive early and use only authorised spaces while keeping the road clear. Parking at Col de Vergio adds another walk to the selected circuit and is separate from the departure. Follow current signs and restrictions.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 348 м.
SurfaceImproved surface 19%, Dirt 8%, Asphalt 1%, Unknown 71%.
Риски Uneven paths include stones, roots and occasional more demanding rocky passages. Take particular care beside the waterfall and river after rain. Small watercourse crossings depend on water levels. Help children on awkward sections and avoid the edge of wet rocks. Viewing the waterfall does not require swimming or descending into its pool.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 h 51 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow an estimated 2–3 hours for the selected circuit, small return passages and unhurried pauses. This is an editorial estimate for the walk itself. Add transfers, any approach from the pass and longer sheepfold stops separately. Finish with a daylight margin and avoid rushing wet rocky sections to meet transport.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose snow-free conditions, an open road and settled weather. The wooded approach gives partial shade in hot weather, but water and sun protection remain necessary. Heavy rain changes stream levels and makes rocks slippery. Late autumn and winter snow can complicate both the mountain approach and the path.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Footwear with good grip
Water and a snack
Rain jacket and warm layer
Sun protection
Poles if useful
Map and charged phone

Checked return to D84
