Route description

Petros connects two different sides of Chornohora in this journey: the valley approach from Lazeshchyna and the descent towards Yasinya. Forest roads first lead through Kozmeshchyk, a familiar locality to generations of Carpathian walkers. This version includes returns along mountain approaches before the principal ascent, making it a journey of several stages. On Petros, forest gives way to exposed high mountain ground; the rocky summit reveals the massif and its neighbouring spurs. Beyond the summit, the passage continues towards Yasinya. Kozmeshchyk Shelter is a particular place to encounter local walking infrastructure, though accommodation and use of the complex need an arrangement.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
The transition from the valley to high Petros is the attraction here. Examine the changing mountain environment, then leave by another inhabited side of Chornohora. The extended version suits walkers wishing to devote a separate journey to Petros rather than fit in a quick summit visit.

Route suitability

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceGravel 22%, Dirt / grass 18%, Dirt 11%, Unknown 46%.
Риски Long approaches and returns use energy before the summit. Wet rock, wind, low cloud and lingering snow affect the upper section. Establish permitted paths and overnight places, notify mountain rescuers and prepare an alternative descent. The short educational itinerary does not cover the complete journey.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 16–20 h of walking in total
With stops | 2–3 days This editorial estimate covers the complete selected Lazeshchyna–Petros–Yasinya passage, including its approach returns. Plan 2–3 days of walking: a valley approach with the chosen returns, followed by Petros and the Yasinya-side exit; a leisurely party should retain another day for the final descent. Establish stages and permitted overnight stops before departure. The short educational section on Petros does not represent the whole journey.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Ordinary walking is best in dry snow-free conditions with a settled forecast. Snow and ice can affect Petros outside the winter months. Winter needs a separate mountain skill set and snow assessment; a well-known summit is not automatically an easy winter walk.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Grippy mountain footwear and familiar poles.
Warm clothing, rain protection and water and food between agreed resupply points.
A headlamp, a map of both sides and equipment for confirmed overnight arrangements.
