Подготовка к маршруту

Route at a glance

The trail offers a quick introduction to old oak woodland and the karst relief of the Leningrad Region. In half an hour, visitors can see a historic park, century-old trees and a natural sinkhole in the limestone plateau. It works especially well as a stop on a wider driving trip through Kingisepp District.

Getting there

Without a car
Regional buses may reach Velkota through Kingisepp District, but services are infrequent and not always convenient for a day trip. From the stop, walk to the official trailhead. Check the timetable in both directions and keep a backup return option, such as a taxi or arranged transfer.
By car
Drive to Velkota and continue to the official nature-trail entrance. Move slowly on the final village streets and respect residential property. Vehicles are not permitted inside the reserve or on the boardwalk. Use the Protected Areas Directorate map rather than informal forest turn-offs.
Parking
Use a permitted area by the entrance or within the village without blocking access to homes. There is no guarded car park. Do not leave a vehicle on vegetation or close to the karst sinkhole.

What to expect

A historic park from the former Blok estate
Mature oak, ash, lime and maple trees
White poplar and lilac
A wooden boardwalk
A karst sinkhole pond

Difficult sections and safety

There are no major obstacles, but wet boardwalks and fallen leaves can be slippery. Keep children close near the sinkhole and do not approach unstable edges. Do not swim in the pond, break branches or collect plants. Mature trees can shed dead limbs during strong wind, so postpone the visit in severe weather.

How much time to allow

Расчётное время маршрута 24 min

Best time to go

The official trail is suitable for year-round visits. The oak woodland is most expressive from late spring to autumn, particularly during full foliage and autumn colour.
The boardwalk may be slippery after rain and in winter. Avoid standing beneath old trees during strong wind.

What to bring

footwear with a non-slip sole
rain protection if required
insect repellent and tick protection in the warm season
a small amount of water
a phone with the trailhead saved
binoculars or a camera if desired
