Route at a glance

This is a rare opportunity to experience a large living bog close to the city. Boardwalks lead toward a wide open horizon, while interpretation panels explain the wetland system and ancient Baltic shoreline features. The route is especially convenient without a car because it begins and ends at Beloostrov station.

Getting there

Without a car
Take a suburban train to Beloostrov. From the station, the route follows New Highway and Railway Street, then a forest road to the reserve entrance. The walking approach is roughly 2 km each way. Check the return train and save the timetable offline. The full 7.6 km GPX already includes the station approach, so do not add it again when estimating the distance.
By car
Drivers can reach Beloostrov but cannot continue to the boardwalks. The official directions recommend leaving the car near Beloostrov station or in a permitted area by New Highway and completing the approach on foot. Do not drive onto the forest road or into the reserve. Motor traffic and parking outside designated areas violate the protected-area regulations.
Parking
Use the area by Beloostrov railway station or a permitted public parking place near New Highway. Capacity is limited and the areas are unguarded. Do not block residents or emergency access on Railway Street.

What to expect

Beloostrov station and settlement
A forest approach to the reserve
Ancient Baltic shoreline ridges
Wooden boardwalks
Raised bog, transitional wetland and fen habitats
Observation platforms and interpretation panels
An open bog horizon and birdlife

Difficult sections and safety

Never leave the boardwalks or official path. Bog ground can appear firm while giving way underfoot. Wooden surfaces are slippery after rain, during frost and under snow; pass other visitors one at a time on narrow sections. Toads and frogs migrate across roads near the reserve in spring. Watch the ground and wheels, do not handle animals outside an official volunteer programme and never disturb temporary migration barriers. Dogs, bicycles on the nature trail, fires and off-route access are prohibited. Use tick protection and insect repellent in summer.

Best time to go

May to October is the most comfortable period. Spring brings amphibian migration and the return of wetland activity, summer is rich in birds and insects, and autumn gives the open landscape strong colour.
A winter visit is possible, but snow may conceal the boardwalk and ice makes it slippery. Avoid the open section during strong wind, thunderstorms or flooding.

What to bring

footwear with a non-slip sole
a windproof and waterproof layer
water
insect repellent and tick protection
binoculars
a phone with the GPX and offline map
a power bank
the train timetable saved offline
