Подготовка к маршруту

Route at a glance

The route combines the nature of the Kurgalsky Peninsula, the shore of Narva Bay and military history. Its appeal comes from the sequence of forest, wetland, sandy relief and old fortifications rather than one dominant landmark. The official trail is open to both walkers and cyclists, although the full GPX requires a substantial time allowance.

Getting there

Without a car
Regional buses to Bolshoye Kuzyomkino are infrequent. Check current services through Kingisepp District, the final departure of the day and the distance from the stop to the GPX start. Missing the return bus can leave few alternatives, so arrange a backup taxi or transfer in advance.
By car
Drive to Bolshoye Kuzyomkino and the official trailhead, using the GPX and the Protected Areas Directorate map for the final junctions. Do not use forest bypasses or roads closed under the reserve regulations. The Kurgalsky Peninsula lies close to the state border. Carry a passport and check current border-zone requirements, especially for foreign nationals and organised groups.
Parking
Use a permitted area at the official trailhead or legal parking within the village without inconveniencing residents. No guarded car park has been confirmed. Never drive onto dunes, wetlands or the protected shoreline.

What to expect

Bolshoye Kuzyomkino and the southern Kurgalsky Peninsula
Pine woodland and heathland
Black-alder swamp and wooden boardwalks
Relict dunes and sandy ground
Fortifications from the 1930s and 1940s
The shore and views of Narva Bay
An extended GPX of about 15.1 km

Difficult sections and safety

The supplied GPX is significantly longer than the official route. Do not plan around the published 10.7 km and 2.5-hour figures: the extra loop, stops at the fortifications and soft ground increase the effort. Boardwalks become slippery after rain, black-alder swamp and forest roads may be wet or muddy, and sand slows cyclists. Do not enter ruined fortifications or approach unstable edges. Visiting the nature trails in Kurgalsky Reserve is subject to a fee. Check the current tariff and payment method on the official website. Follow border-zone requirements, stay on the route and keep away from closed coastal areas.

How much time to allow

Расчётное время маршрута 4 h 40 min

Расчёт учитывает дистанцию и набор высоты. Добавьте запас на отдых, погоду и навигацию.

Best time to go

The official route is available year-round, but May to October is the most comfortable period. Wetland sections are soft in spring and after rain, ticks and mosquitoes are active in summer, and snow plus short daylight add time in winter.
Check notices about boardwalk condition, wildfire restrictions and current Kurgalsky Reserve visiting rules before travelling.

What to bring

water-resistant footwear or cycling shoes for mixed surfaces
water and food for 4–5 hours
insect repellent and tick protection
a passport
an offline map and the GPX
a power bank
a windproof and waterproof layer
a bicycle repair kit if riding
