Route description

Chalk Hills links the Neman bank in Pyshki with Grodno’s former quarry district. Sinka’s coloured water and pale cliffs made the area recognisable, but a visit now needs particular care: quarry land has restrictions, and further reclamation works were being prepared in September 2026. Plan viewing only from permitted public approaches and turn back at barriers. Elsewhere, pause beside the Neman and notice the old fortifications. This is a bicycle outing over several roads and branches, to be adapted to current permitted access, without swimming or descending quarry slopes.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
The Neman, Sinka and old defensive structures give the ride distinct points of interest. The Zub viewpoint helps explain the district’s Chalk Hills name. Enjoy it through a quiet visit from safe, permitted places; quarry water is not an invitation to swim.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
The urban approach is possible without a car. Quarry sections are unsuitable for a children’s walk or stroller; the historical route’s cycling designation does not override current access restrictions. Current dog rules and mobile reception across the complete itinerary are unverified.

Nearby

Zelyonka belongs to the same former quarry district, but a visit is not promised by this version and also depends on restrictions. Pyshki’s gentler Neman-side Health Trail is a separate option if quarry approaches are unavailable.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Pyshki can be approached on foot from urban Grodno. A current direct bus to the start of this version has not been verified; check bicycle carriage separately. Agree on the return from the quarry district before setting off.
By car
Use ordinary city approaches to Pyshki or a chosen permitted entrance. Motor access to quarry water is unverified. Do not drive onto service roads or reclamation sites; arrange any driver meeting outside barriers.
Parking
A dedicated quarry car park for this version has not been confirmed. Choose a lawful city space and add the approach. Verges and quarry-road entrances should not be treated as visitor parking.

What to expect

Places
Sinka viewpoint A viewpoint beside the former Sinka quarry; viewing requires a permitted safe approach, without descending to the water.
Zub viewpoint A named viewpoint over the chalk-quarry district; keep away from unstable edges and barriers.
Fort No 13 The remains of a defensive structure on the ride’s northern branch; restrict viewing to a safe exterior approach.
Neman beside Pyshki Near Pyshki the itinerary reaches the Neman, with a pause possible on an accessible riverside path.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 73 м.
SurfaceAsphalt 41%, Paving stones 8%, Dirt 2%, Unknown 46%.
Риски Quarry banks are unstable; descending to the water and swimming are outside a safe plan. A 26 September 2026 report described preparations for reclamation at Sinka and Zelyonka: follow current barriers and staff instructions. Slow down near walkers, gullies and bends on forest roads. View damaged forts from outside.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 2 h 19 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow around 4–6 hours for relaxed cycling with stops on accessible sections. Time depends on your chosen branches and the permitted bypass of quarry land. If an approach is closed, leave it out and revise the return in advance; the old full 412 passport is not present-day permission to ride its entire circuit.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Dry weather and long daylight from spring to early autumn are preferable. After rain, riverside slopes and dirt descents are particularly undesirable. Quarry restrictions are independent of season and should be checked on the day.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
A bicycle with reliable brakes, helmet and repair kit.
Water, a snack and a windproof or waterproof layer.
Grippy shoes for short walking stops.
Charged phone and a saved map of permitted approaches.
