Route description

Terskey Torpok opens a walking passage from the Son-Kul River valley into the lake basin. Known as “33 Parrots”, the pass has a winding road that has become a recognisable feature of this approach. Pause at the saddle before continuing towards the southern pastures and the shore of the large mountain lake. The onward section introduces Son-Kul from its summer-camp side. The waterside stop here belongs to the lake itself, rather than its namesake river. Leave time to look around and arrange accommodation beforehand if planning an evening in the basin. This is a longer journey than a brief vehicle visit to the pass and needs energy in reserve.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The full journey needs independent trekking experience and an agreed exit. Dog permission, bicycle passage and mobile coverage have not been checked; a familiar destination settlement does not establish scheduled services to both ends.

Nearby

Kazhyr Ty Waterfall, mapped as Big Brother, is off the main line and needs a separate approach from the pass road. Check the additional path and current conditions locally.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
No scheduled service directly to the precise start and finish has been confirmed. Arrange drop-off and collection with a local host. If arriving on foot from a neighbouring section, include the approach, overnight needs and room for a changed plan.
By car
The endpoints are on different approaches, so one car at the start does not settle the logistics. Agree actual drop-off and meeting places with a driver beforehand. Check local roads and access after rain or snow immediately before travelling.
Parking
No dedicated parking place at the precise start has been established. Arrange storage with a household or hosting camp and keep village and pasture access roads clear.

What to expect

Places
Terskey Torpok Pass The named pass between the river valley and Son-Kul basin is also known as 33 Parrots. Its road bends make the shape of the approach especially recognisable.
Son-Kul Lake The southern shore of the large mountain lake lies beside the later part of the walk. Pause here independently; arrange any yurt night and local visiting rules separately.
Son-Kul River The river valley accompanies the Terskey Torpok approach. It is distinct from the lakeshore and makes the change from valley to basin easier to understand.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 674 м.
SurfaceCompacted dirt 100%.
Риски Check the entire passage and a safe finish on the far side. Delay mountain sections in fog or thunderstorms; strong flow or unstable banks may require a new plan. Watch for vehicles on roads and livestock and dogs near pastures. Treat drinking water and do not make overnight arrangements dependent on an invitation from strangers.

How much time to allow

Plan | A multi-day walking journey As a preliminary allowance, reserve 3–4 walking days with stops and overnight arrangements, plus weather and logistical reserve. This is an editorial estimate for this itinerary rather than an organiser’s schedule. Calculate initial access and final collection separately.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
July and August are preferable for a prepared group after crossings and roads have been checked locally. Cold, snow and sudden weather changes remain possible on mountain sections in summer. For September, confirm shelter and exits beforehand and allow for early snow and shorter daylight.
