Route description

Donguz connects the Kara-Keche side with the Ming-Kush valley. The saddle helps explain the shape of the region: beyond it, the journey changes direction and gradually returns to a settled valley. Pause at the pass before continuing down towards the agreed exit. This version includes an additional valley excursion towards Sary-Bulun and a finish back on the Ming-Kush side. Return along the existing valley road without cutting straight across slopes. Decide beforehand which part forms the independent mountain stage, where each day ends and how the valley return will work. Choose the journey to get to know both sides of Donguz and prepare carefully for its extended continuation.

Getting there

Show on map

Difficult sections and safety

Elevation gain
Check snow, weather and the descent from Donguz. Beyond Ming-Kush, establish the valley excursion and road return separately; a safe direct shortcut between distant sections has not been demonstrated. Watch for vehicles and choose stopping places clear of traffic. Plan shelter, food and a reserve exit beforehand.

How much time to allow

Plan | A multi-day crossing with a valley excursion and return As a preliminary allowance, reserve 4–6 walking days for the complete mountain and valley proposal, with overnight arrangements and weather reserve. This is an editorial estimate after selecting the actual return road. A shortened Donguz crossing needs a new schedule; a short horse excursion does not supply the timing for the full version.

Best time to go

July and August are preferable for a prepared group after snow on Donguz and the valley road have been checked. Thunderstorms and cold nights remain possible in summer. Consider September only with a recent pass report and settled weather; early snow may change the entire exit.
