Route description

Baritovy Waterfall lies above the northern edge of Arkhyz, in the valley carrying mountain water down towards the village. The climb begins beside the stream, passes through woodland and reaches the cascade. A nearby walking start and the village slipping below give this version its appeal. It ends near the waterfall: the mine, high passes and Pioneer Peak require a different continuation.

Route at a glance

Devote the walk to a single valley, following Baritovaya from Arkhyz towards its waterfall. The wooded approach and steeper upper section make the waterside pause feel earned. For visitors who prefer walking out from their accommodation, it offers a clear destination without a required mountain transfer.

Route suitability

The village start is nearby, but the climb needs stamina. Children must be ready for both the ascent and walking return, with close supervision beside the water. The trail is unsuitable for a stroller. Dog access and upper-section mobile coverage are unverified.

Nearby

The Baritovy mine lies above this short approach’s ending; a visit needs a separate continuation and a check of the site. Baritovy Pass and Pioneer Peak belong to a much higher mountain section and should not be treated as incidental waterfall stops. Karcha-Tyobe is an independent walk on another side of the village.

Getting there

Difficult sections and safety

Elevation gain
The climb becomes steeper, and rocks beside the water may be wet. After rain, reassess the path and stream crossing. Avoid stepping under the flow or onto slippery ledges for a photograph. Keeping energy for the descent matters more than adding a summit above the gorge on impulse.

How much time to allow

Plan a separate outing with a walking return to Arkhyz the same day. Start early enough to enjoy the forest approach, the steeper upper part and a pause at the cascade. Return along the familiar approach afterwards. Descent and the walk through the village add to the ascent; this version does not include a completed return circuit.

Best time to go

A dry, snow-free day makes a sensible first visit. Water is generally more noticeable earlier in the warm season, but rainfall affects the stream and crossings. Late in autumn, check for ice near the cascade and allow more daylight. A winter valley outing needs its own assessment.

What to bring

Grippy footwear for the steep climb
Drinking water and food for the return
Waterproof and warm layers for the waterfall pause
Poles if helpful on the descent
An entrance map and charged phone
Torch and personal first-aid kit
A rubbish bag
