Route description

Rihtunjira reveals the change from the Abisko valley to the open slopes of Njullá. Small cascades hide among the mountain birches beside the stream; higher up, the trees give way to flowering meadows. The upper lift station makes a natural place to pause and look across the valley before deciding how to return. This is a summer walk to the mountain station. Njullá’s summit is a separate continuation for walkers with energy to spare and suitable weather.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
The climb calls for steady footing; choose a turnaround point before setting out with children. Keep dogs leashed and on marked trails inside the national park. Ask the lift operator about carrying a dog. Coverage along the whole walk has not been confirmed.

Nearby

After returning, visit naturum Abisko separately for an introduction to the national park. Abisko Canyon and the Torneträsk shore each have their own walks from the visitor area. Njullá’s summit lies beyond the upper lift station and should be planned as an additional outing.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Abisko Turiststation railway station is the convenient arrival point, with walking access to the STF visitor area and naturum. Trains run via Kiruna; the park also lists a bus connection from Kiruna. Check departures for your travel date. Start from the Abisko visitor area even if you intend to use the lift first.
By car
Reach Abisko on the E10, leave your car in the visitor area and continue on foot. Ordinary visitors cannot drive to Njullá’s upper station. Check lift operations and the availability of a downward ride before setting out.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 277 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The slope steepens near the upper station, and wet rock or earth can be slippery. Wind and cold become more noticeable above the trees. Rihtunjira closes in winter because of avalanche risk. Only rely on the lift for your descent after confirming that it is operating; keep enough energy for a walk back.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 3–4 h
With stops | 4–6 h Allow this as a planning range for the summer walk to the upper station and back to Abisko on foot. A visit to Njullá’s summit lengthens the day. The lift may shorten the return, depending on its timetable and the weather.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Go in summer once the trail is open and the slope is clear of snow. Ask about the stream crossing early in the season. Autumn brings shorter days and early frost. Winter closure reflects avalanche danger, not simply uncomfortable walking conditions.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
footwear with grip on wet rock
windproof and waterproof outer layer
warm layer, hat and gloves for the exposed slope
water, snacks and extra food for walking down
local map and charged phone
small first-aid kit
