Route description

The walk to Paddus leaves the Abisko visitor area for mountain birch woodland and the Sami sacred site of Báddosdievvá. The rock stands beside an old route through Lapporten, giving the landscape a human history as well as a natural one. A quiet pause and care for the place are more appropriate than leaving a personal mark. In clear weather, the surroundings of Paddus make a rewarding end to the outward walk, with views towards Torneträsk and the mountain gateway.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Allow for the walk back and choose a manageable plan for children. Keep dogs leashed on marked trails in the national park section, and respect local signs and the cultural significance of Paddus. Whole-route bicycle and stroller access have not been confirmed.

Nearby

Visit naturum or Abisko Canyon as separate outings from the visitor area. A reconstructed Sami seasonal camp is nearer the railway parking area; ask about the approach if you want to extend the cultural side of the day. Lapporten itself lies farther into the mountains and is not an automatic continuation of the Paddus walk.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Arrive at Abisko Turiststation and walk to the blue-marked route from the visitor area and naturum. Rail and bus connections via Kiruna serve the park; check your dates. There is no return public transport from Paddus itself, so plan to walk back to Abisko.
By car
Reach Abisko on the E10, leave your vehicle in the visitor area and continue to Paddus on foot. Use the blue-waymark map to find the start near the railway rather than looking for a vehicle approach to the sacred rock.
Parking
Use permitted visitor parking around naturum and the E10, following local signs. Do not occupy special-permit spaces without the appropriate permit. Do not plan on parking at Paddus itself.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceDirt 100%.
Риски Allow for a sustained walk and the return: Paddus does not offer a convenient vehicle finish. Woodland does not shelter you from a whole day of rain, and wet ground can slow progress. Follow the blue waymarks. At the sacred rock, leave stones and objects undisturbed; give grazing reindeer and herders space.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 4–5 h
With stops | 5–7 h Allow this range for walking from Abisko to Paddus and back. The official trail is described as one way; visiting the sacred rock and returning calls for a full walking-day plan with reserve time.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose the snow-free summer season or early autumn in settled weather. Summer brings woodland and mountain plants; autumn means a shorter day and colder stops. Ask naturum about current path and wet-ground conditions before setting out.

Базовый список для комфортного похода
footwear for a woodland path
water and food for the outward walk and return
