Route description

From Marghuzor, the path climbs to Tovasang Pass and crosses into the Sarmad valley. The lake holds your attention at first, before the road through Haftrud and the path beside the Moshsoy draw you farther into the mountains. The pass reveals a different side of the Fanns, and the descent brings you back to a river and pastoral settlements. The journey continues downstream along the Sarmad to its meeting with the Archamaydon. It is a rewarding way to leave Marghuzor on foot: see how the lake sits among its slopes, follow a mountain crossing used by local people, and emerge in another valley. The connection between the lake basin and river country gives this western Fann journey its character.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - With caution With a dog - No data By bike - Partially With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data Suitable for prepared teenagers with experience of long mountain days. A bicycle would involve walking and carrying sections; the whole route is not a continuous ride. Confirm dog access and overnight arrangements separately, and take care around livestock dogs.

Nearby

Confirm accommodation and meals with lake-side hosts beforehand. On the Sarmad side, agree on a suitable tent location and avoid camping close to the channel. Bread or food in a small settlement depends on hosts being present; carry your own supplies for the crossing.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Arrange a transfer to the lake side and collection at the end of the valley section in advance. Regular services at the exact endpoints have not been verified. A local organiser can link the walk with transport without relying on a chance lift.
By car
Use a local driver who knows the road beside Marghuzor; access depends on its condition. Arrange collection on the other side separately. Returning over the pass to a parked car would substantially change the plan.
Parking
Agree on leaving a car with hosts on the lake side. An equipped parking area for this version has not been confirmed.

What to expect

Places
Marghuzor Lake The sixth and largest of the Seven Lakes, with the approach towards Tovasang beginning beside it.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 923 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The ascent to Tovasang is sustained, with steep stretches on the descent. In the lower Sarmad valley, follow the existing winding road towards the Archamaydon; direct cuts across slopes and channels are not verified passages. Check the Moshsoy crossings and side streams before departure. Treat river water because farms and pastures lie upstream. Approach pastoral settlements calmly and wait for owners to control their dogs.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 9 h 55 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Plan roughly two walking days for this crossing, with an agreed overnight place on the Sarmad side. A strong group may choose a different schedule after assessing conditions, but the long pass day should not be treated as a short outing. Transfers are additional.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Late June to September after checking the path and weather locally. Snow and water levels need particular attention early in the season. Start early in summer: the lake side can be hot, while the pass still calls for warm clothing.

What to bring

Grippy hiking boots and poles for the long descent.
Drinking water, a treatment method, sun protection and waterproof clothing.
