Route description

The Sâmbăta valley begins this ascent with water and woodland. Higher up, attention shifts from the river towards the rock walls and mountain bowl before Fereastra Mare a Sâmbetei. The pass provides a natural conclusion: look back along the valley and notice how different its upper side feels from the resort beginning. The upper section needs more attention than the valley approach. Use stable weather for its stony slope and zigzags, retaining energy for descent or an agreed continuation. Valea Sâmbetei hut remains a lower-side landmark, but current operation, water and overnight accommodation require checking. Do not build the ascent around an assumed opportunity to rest or resupply there.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceGravel 33%, Asphalt 17%, Dirt 11%, Unknown 36%.
Риски Use secure steps on the upper stony slope and keep energy for return. Wet rocks, mist and strong wind change conditions. Avoid neighbouring snowy gullies as shortcuts. The author recommends limiting ordinary winter outings to the lower side; the pass needs an independent mountain assessment.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 7 h 12 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Give ascent and return a separate mountain day and start early. Assess the valley approach, stony upper slope and descent separately against the party’s ability. For several trekking days with an overnight stay, confirm its location beforehand; a neighbouring standard route’s timing does not cover every approach in this variant.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Prefer a snow-free period and a clear stable forecast for the upper passage. Check remaining spring snow and wet rocks after rain. A lower winter walk does not establish pass access; verify hut operation independently of the season.
