Route description

From Rilski Ezera Hut, this short walk explores the lower part of the lake area. Mountain paths and several return passages lead towards Dzherman Stream, linked with the Seven Rila Lakes’ water system. A southern branch approaches the Fish Lake area before the selected walk finishes back on a lower path. It offers an introduction to local hut connections while leaving time to enjoy the mountain valley. A complete lake cirque circuit and entry to the older Sedemte Ezera Hut are additional outings.

Nearby

Fish Lake and the older Sedemte Ezera Hut lie near the southern branch, but shore and entrance approaches add to the walk. Other lakes, summits and Razdela Pass require a further mountain route. Swimming in park lakes and rivers is prohibited. Confirm hut accommodation and meals before departure.

Without a car
First reach the upper Rilski Ezera Hut area; arrival at Pionerska alone does not reach the departure. The operator announced lift maintenance without passenger carriage from 5 October 2026, with no completion date. Check for a new notice before travelling. If the lift is unavailable, arrange a separate mountain approach and return, with transport to the lower road area organised beforehand.
By car
Plan road arrival in the lower Panichishte and Pionerska area, followed by a separate ascent to the upper hut. Avoid unauthorised mountain vehicle passages: park rules restrict driving to designated roads. Lift maintenance increases the walking involved in the whole visit, while the selected upper passage remains a separate outing.
Parking
Parking directly at the upper departure is unconfirmed. Use authorised lower road parking according to current signs, checking conditions and permitted duration beforehand. A car does not reach this upper path connection. Include the additional ascent and return in the full day.
