Route description

From Kinlochleven, the way climbs towards Lairigmor and passes between mountain slopes towards Glen Nevis. Open valley gives way to woodland and then Fort William’s town centre. This expanded version repeatedly returns over familiar passages, offering a prolonged exploration of the West Highland Way’s final corridor. The town adds a separate history: the Parade has Donald Cameron’s statue, while Cameron Square holds the Bronze Ford, recalling an unusual motoring ascent of Ben Nevis. The selected outing finishes centrally. It does not automatically include the present official finishing monument of the whole West Highland Way.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 1715 м.
SurfaceDirt / grass 25%, Gravel 11%, Asphalt 8%, Unknown 54%.
Риски The first climb is steep, Lairigmor is rough underfoot, and woodland passages can be undulating and wet. Strong wind and rain make the open portion harder. Numerous returns increase the walking involved, so plan supplies and rest ahead. Watch traffic in town and control dogs near livestock and other visitors.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 19 h 35 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Multi-day outing. A day-by-day plan is not established. Create your own division of all repeated passages with permitted accommodation and daylight. Do not apply the duration of the standard single final stage to this expanded version. Carry food and water from the beginning, without relying on shops or cafés in the open valley. Confirm accommodation and transport before travelling.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Long daylight and a settled weather window in late spring or summer are most convenient. Rain and wind can occur at any time, while autumn makes some woodland paths muddy. Winter snow and short daylight require different preparation and a more cautious plan. Account for forestry work, actual accommodation and your selected bus timetable.
