Route description

The lower approach towards Hundsøyra starts at the Markjelke road junction and heads towards Svartedalsvatnet. Hydropower infrastructure shapes the beginning before rocky slopes replace the constructed road. This version passes west of the reservoir and finishes on the mountain path well before the celebrated glacier panorama. It offers a separate introduction to the lower mountain landscape and reservoir, provided you choose your turnaround in advance. A summit arrival is not part of this outing: the “Hundsøyra” board at the start points towards the longer route. Decide on any continuation and the return before setting off.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
This lower section ends on a hillside and needs a separate return. Suitability for children depends on sure footing on rock and the day’s conditions. Riding or stroller use is not recommended throughout; dog rules and continuous reception are unconfirmed.

Nearby

Hardingaskaret and Hundsøyra’s glacier-edge viewpoint lie farther along the larger route and are not confirmed destinations here. Holmaskjer and the descent to Odda belong to a separate glacier journey. Markjelkevatnet lies by the road approach; its shore is not added as a separate stop in this version.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
A direct service to the Markjelke road junction is unconfirmed. Reaching Nordrepollen does not resolve the final mountain-road section. Arrange an independent transfer and departure before setting out; a regular bus to the beginning is not supplied as a verified option.
By car
The regional tourism authority confirms a secured construction road from Nordrepollen to the Svartedalen junction before Markjelkevatnet. It serves the beginning of the lower approach. Establish current road access and driving conditions; the finish is on the path and has no vehicle exit.
Parking
The tourism authority describes parking with an information board at the road junction before Markjelkevatnet. It serves the beginning rather than the mountain finish. Charges and current long-stay restrictions are unconfirmed; establish them locally or before travelling.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 324 м.
SurfaceGravel 19%, Unknown 81%.
Риски A rocky mountain path follows the road section. Wet surfaces, wind and snow patches can make even the lower approach awkward. Snow sometimes hides markings on the higher route; this short section is not a reason to continue in poor visibility. Continuing towards Hundsøyra needs good fitness and a separate conditions assessment; glacier travel requires specialist experience.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 h 13 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Complete time for the lower approach and return is unconfirmed. Allow separately for viewing the reservoir and returning from your chosen turnaround. The published 8-hour estimate describes a full Hundsøyra outing there and back and does not apply to this limited version.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose good visibility and stable weather for walking, after checking snow on the lower mountain path. A spring ski description of the full Hundsøyra route does not confirm this section’s suitability for walking. Dry rock and spare daylight matter particularly in autumn.
