Route description

These short cross-country skiing sections lie beside the Alexander Zavyalov centre in the settlement named after Telman, near Chulkovo. In winter, the place offers an introduction to a local skiing tradition: competitions have been held on the namesake trail for many years. Staying close to the starting area makes it possible to begin with a small outing rather than heading far into the woods. Check the available plan and direction of travel before joining the ski trail. The quiet appearance of the woodland setting should not obscure its sporting purpose. Neighbouring trails include climbs, descents and skiers travelling at different speeds. Choose an open passage suited to your ability and the snow conditions. With suitable preparation, this can be a careful introduction to cross-country skiing or a short training session. If individual sections have not been confirmed as prepared, stay on the permitted open part indicated locally. Indoor access, equipment hire and lessons require separate arrangements.

Route suitability

Children need an adult capable of assessing snow and safe descents. This outing is for cross-country skis on snow; a bicycle or stroller is unsuitable for that use. Dog access and current transport to the start have not been confirmed.

Nearby

Borovsky Kurgan and the Guy Severin downhill ski club are in the wider sporting area, but the summit and downhill slopes are not included in these short sections. They are separate visits with their own approaches and rules.

Getting there

Show on map
Without a car
Check current travel specifically to Telman settlement and the ski centre, rather than only to Ostrovtsy. An operating service directly to the starting area has not been established; prepare the final walk separately.
By car
Find the vehicle approach to Telman settlement and the outside of the Alexander Zavyalov ski centre. Check starting-area access with organisers before travelling, especially on competition days. Keep vehicles off the ski trail.
Parking
The current arrangements for a dedicated parking area at the start have not been confirmed. Ask organisers or check on arrival; do not assume a free space or block access for maintenance vehicles.

Difficult sections and safety

Elevation gain
Check the direction of travel, open sections and conditions on descents before skiing. The local network includes sporting terrain; a short outing does not exclude difficult turns or ice. Keep the trail clear when stopping and slow down where visibility is limited.

How much time to allow

Skiing | Allow 15–30 minutes for a small passage with suitable snow and confident skiing skills. Whole outing | Allow roughly 45–60 minutes including checking the starting area and preparing equipment. Plan | Confirm the open link between sections locally first; add travel to the centre and repeated circuits separately.

Best time to go

Use the trail only in winter with adequate settled snow and confirmed access to the intended section. Snowy winter months are a guide, not evidence of grooming. Thaw followed by frost may leave ice; an autumn description does not report snow on the ground.

What to bring

Cross-country skis, compatible boots and poles.
Gloves and clothing for exercise in cold weather.
A dry warm layer for after skiing.
Water and a charged phone.
