Route description

Follow the Protva from Borovsk towards Vereya as a succession of rural history. The town square and first footbridge give way to bank roads, the Borinka and Sovyaki’s St Barbara’s Church. Beyond the Isma and Revyakino, the river landscape continues through Dubrovo, the Assumption Church of Naberezhnaya Sloboda and a suspension crossing towards Vyshegorod. The later section passes villages and bank approaches towards Vereya, where the entrance stele brings the rural journey to a town memorial. This is the full author’s option progressing along the valley. For an independent walk today, check older passages, bridge conditions and overnight arrangements separately; a closed section is mapped on the opening descent.

Nearby

Borovsk’s museums, Pafnutyevo-Borovsky Monastery and additional town monuments need separate time and admission checks. In Vereya, plan an extra visit towards the old fortified site and historic centre according to current visiting conditions. Older springs, fire circles and group resting places do not establish drinking-water quality or overnight permission. The option using separate valley sections has different connections.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Use Borovsk bus station for arrival, then a separate town approach to the square. The historical connection involves a train to Balabanovo or Obninsk followed by a bus; check operating departures and connections. Plan your return from Vereya bus station after confirming the required direction. An early finish towards Revyakino or Vyshegorod needs a separate approach and confirmed service; older fares and times are not current instructions.
By car
Arrange a drop-off in an accessible part of Borovsk and collection in Vereya or at a selected intermediate exit. A car left at the start needs separate retrieval. Bank ruts and Prutomoyka’s woodland section are not established as continuous permitted vehicle-support access. Obtain agreement before entering private land.
Parking
An accessible area is mapped on Borovsk’s starting town side. Charges, a long stay and leaving a car for several days are unconfirmed. Areas on the Vereya side also need checks of their own conditions. Keep bus spaces, private entrances and river-crossing approaches clear.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceDirt 8%, Asphalt 6%, Improved surface 4%, Unknown 77%.
Риски A closed footpath section is mapped on the descent from central Borovsk: find a permitted approach to the first crossing. Check the Borinka crossing and suspension bridge before walking; avoid older instructions to use the outside of a leaning bridge. Prutomoyka woodland, ravines and tall bank vegetation towards Afanasyevo require confident navigation. Hollows may be wet after rain. On road bridges and the final Vereya approach, use an available pedestrian side or a separately permitted connection.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 15 h 37 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
The author’s programme allows 3–4 days. Its geographic stages are Borovsk to Revyakino, Revyakino to Vyshegorod and Vyshegorod to Vereya. This is a planning basis rather than a confirmed present overnight schedule. A day-by-day plan for the multi-day outing is not established. Arrange accommodation, water and food resupply, permitted crossings and intermediate transport before travelling. Museums and town walks need extra time.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Dry weather in the warmer months better suits the bank roads and woodland section. Check hollows, ravines and bridge approaches after rain. Summer needs covered clothing on overgrown sections and attention to hogweed. Reduce autumn day plans for earlier darkness. A complete winter passage and crossing conditions are unconfirmed.
