Route description

Belopesotsky Backwater, Old Kashira’s earthworks and Bunchikha Gorge form a varied walking outing in southern Moscow Region. The beginning lies on Belopesotsky’s railway side, where a settlement passage gives way to a bank-side road near the backwater. Among pine-covered areas, choose stable accessible ground for a waterside pause. The course then reaches fields and the Kashirka road crossing. Beyond the river, the path approaches Old Kashira Fortified Site. Its western earthworks reveal the outline of the former stronghold, with river valleys visible from open places. Slow down to examine the landform while avoiding crumbling slopes and damage to the monument. The memorial cross stands on another side of the site, so its separate approach should not be confused with the chosen passage. Field and woodland roads continue past the Khochema side towards Laptevo, crossing the Khochemka at a ford. Staroe’s Nativity of the Mother of God Church stands beside the road, built from locally made brick. Beyond the village, the hike returns to woodland, where the Bunchikha creates its own small world of steep banks, limestone exposures and rock fragments. Notice this unusual valley from safe existing approaches and choose footing carefully on descents. Beyond the gorge lies the Vozrozhdeniye side, followed by roads near a children’s health-resort fence and an extended woodland continuation towards Zhilyovo. Prepare a permitted passenger approach at the station beforehand. Water crossings and bank conditions determine whether the complete outing is possible; in suitable conditions, spreading it across several days requires separately checked permitted overnight locations. This leaves time for the backwater, fortified-site history and wooded Bunchikha in turn.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Different railway points on the Paveletsky line serve the beginning and end; check present services and station approaches separately. The complete version needs sustained walking experience and assessment of fords, stones and steep banks. It is unsuitable for young children, strollers or an uninterrupted ordinary bicycle outing. Dog rules and continuous reception are unconfirmed. Arrange overnight locations and possible shortening at Vozrozhdeniye before starting.

Nearby

The fortified site’s memorial cross stands on its southern side and needs a separate approach. Old Kashira’s Church of the Sign and the Tikhvin church near the beginning are also excluded from included stops. A more wooded Khochema–Laptevo variant visits another spring and changes this course. Seeking the gorge geocache, walking the entire river channel and entering health-resort camp grounds are not confirmed included visits. Zhilyovo’s station building can be examined by a separate permitted approach after completion.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Arrive at Belopesotsky Railway Halt; the finish is associated with Zhilyovo Station on the Paveletsky line. Check the required train calls and permitted passenger approaches for your chosen day. An active railway corridor and level crossing lie near the beginning; use only an accessible permitted crossing. Vozrozhdeniye has a physical stop by the road intersection, but confirm a present shortening service and Stupino connection beforehand. The author’s historical timetables do not establish current departures.
By car
Arrange delivery to the Belopesotsky side and separate collection at Zhilyovo. A vehicle left at the beginning remains at the opposite end of the linear hike, requiring a separately prepared return. Vozrozhdeniye may serve as a checked intermediate meeting point after confirming permitted access. Driving the entire walking course, banks or gorge is unestablished; the children’s health-resort grounds are not a through-road.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Arrange permitted vehicle storage near your chosen railway end or intermediate meeting point beforehand. A verge, bank-side clearing or bus-stop area does not establish parking. Keep the level crossing, station passages, entrances and residents’ access clear.

What to expect

Places
Belopesotsky Backwater the waterside beginning where water adjoins pine-covered ground. Choose stable accessible ground for a pause; a current equipped beach and swimming are unestablished.
Kashirka River at the Road Crossing the river before the fortified-site approach. View it from the permitted road side; a separate channel descent is unnecessary.
Old Kashira Fortified Site the former stronghold’s earthworks with open river-valley views. This version uses the western side; the eastern corner and memorial cross need separate decisions.
Khochemka Stream Ford the stream on the continuation towards Laptevo. The changing river landscape comes with a need to assess present water and footing.
Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Staroe the brick church beside the village road, examined from outside. The parish authority confirms contemporary worship; interior visiting depends on present arrangements.
Bunchikha Gorge a wooded valley with steep slopes, limestone exposures and rock fragments. Observe it from safe existing approaches while assessing water and bank stability.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceGravel 6%, Dirt 5%, Asphalt 3%, Unknown 83%.
Риски Avoid Bunchikha Gorge after heavy rain and during spring high water: rising water, wet stones and steep banks make passage hazardous. Assess the Khochemka ford and Bunchikha and tributary crossings before each continuation; historical depth is not your day’s condition. The fortified site and initial embankment have steep places, while uneven ruts and tall vegetation occur on ground-road continuations. Use presently permitted road and railway crossings. Near the health resort, check the exterior passage beside the fence and barriers; do not bypass a closed entrance through camp grounds or private property. The late woodland portion needs energy reserves and independent navigation.

How much time to allow

Time for the route | Unestablished With stops | Unestablished A day-by-day plan is unestablished. The author presents a walk of 1–2 days; an unhurried independent visit can be prepared as two days with separate overnight checks. Present permitted overnight locations and a precise division are unconfirmed. Fords, bank conditions, fortified-site pauses and the decision to continue beyond Vozrozhdeniye determine duration. Historical group plans and another paid outing’s schedule do not apply. Arrival, return-train waiting and separate shoreline or church approaches need additional time.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose dry snow-free conditions and low water after checking fords and the gorge. Spring floods, heavy rain and wet slopes rule out visiting the Bunchikha. Summer vegetation can hide junctions; autumn offers less daylight. Winter passage and safe movement on icy banks are unestablished.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Grippy footwear for ground, steep slopes and stones; spare dry socks.
Drinking water and food for the entire prepared outing; present spring-water quality is unconfirmed.
Rain protection, a warm layer, sun and insect protection.
Offline map, phone, battery reserve, torch and first-aid kit.
Poles for balance on permitted uneven approaches; these do not make a hazardous ford safe.
For an agreed overnight outing: suitable equipment and a separately checked permitted location.
Checked shortening and departure options.
