Route description

The Meshchera outing from Voinovo to Zapolitsy combines lake pauses with an extended woodland continuation. This version adds two approaches to Gorbatoye Lake beside the northern road, allowing a woodland-shore pause before the former peat-working landscape. Ostrets lakes, drainage channels and sandy pine ridges then change the character of the walk. Krutovsky Nature Reserve’s western section brings dry woodland roads close to wet hollows. Kalinov Bridge gives the woodland middle a memorable landmark, while the Senga passage needs its water and crossing checked beforehand. A stone church appears in Stary Pokrov; a northern approach heads towards Akhtyrsky Spring. Beyond Gribchikha, the walk continues to Ananyeva Hill, roads near Zvorkovo and Zapolitsy’s railway side. Set aside several days and select permitted rest places before travelling.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
For a gradual introduction to Meshchera: Gorbatoye’s woodland shore, Ostrets lake country, protected woodland, the metal Kalinov Bridge and a stone church beside the forest. The extra lake approaches make this version especially appealing to walkers who like waterside pauses while keeping time for the substantial southern continuation.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
The two railway sides differ, so plan outbound and return trains separately. The outing suits prepared independent walkers with crossings and overnight places resolved. The author allows summer cycling with sand-riding skills, but shore branches, bridges and wet paths need individual judgement. Full child and dog suitability is unconfirmed.

Nearby

The northern Stary Pokrov approach stops before Akhtyrsky Spring itself: continue separately to its water and bathing pool after checking access. Aryushina Hill’s summit, the lake near Zapolitsy and the reserve’s other lakes lie elsewhere. An October2026 reserve reorganisation proposal is under discussion; follow adopted rules, rather than proposed permissions.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The starting railway side is Voinovo on the Gorky direction; the finish is Zapolitsy on the Kazan direction. The author identifies the former’s far northeastern platform end and the latter’s western end. Check current trains, Moscow departure points and permitted platform approaches beforehand. An intermediate return from Gribchikha requires a separate bus and approach check.
By car
Exact vehicle access to the chosen ends is unconfirmed. With a car, arrange collection or return from the other railway side beforehand. Motor access along woodland roads and protected land is unconfirmed.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Agree a permitted place for a long stay before travelling.

What to expect

Places
Gorbatoye Lake Two brief branches leave the northern road for the woodland lakeshore. These pauses belong to this version; assess the wet approaches on arrival.
Ostrets Lakes The main road passes two Ostrets lakes amid former peat workings. See them from the shore; bathing permission and safety are unconfirmed.
Krutovsky Nature Reserve The outing enters the reserve’s western woodland corridor, visiting part of the protected Meshchera landscape under its present rules.
Kalinov Bridge The named metal bridge amid broad drainage channels is a distinctive woodland landmark. Assess its condition before crossing.
Senga Woodland Crossing The woodland passage crosses the Senga. Resolve the present crossing and water level before including it in the plan.
Stary Pokrov Intercession Church The stone church is encountered from Stary Pokrov’s street side after the woodland section. This is an exterior visit; plan the church interior and spring continuation separately.
Ananyeva Hill The southern passage reaches the upper part of the named ski course and a clearing before turning towards the woodland road. Present ski preparation is unconfirmed.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 76 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Check every drainage-channel, Malaya Senga and Senga passage, including present boards and water. A historic beaver dam cannot guarantee safe passage. Sand, tall grass, wet ground and Gorbatoye’s shore approaches affect pace. Assess traffic around Gribchikha. Do not light fires on peat; follow the reserve’s present rules and choose permitted places rather than former informal clearings.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 16 h 49 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
The author suggests two–three days for the main walking itinerary. Complete time for this version’s two lake branches and northern Stary Pokrov approach is unknown. A day-by-day plan is not established. Select permitted overnight places, drinking water and crossings before dividing the multi-day passage from Voinovo through the lakes and Stary Pokrov towards Gribchikha and Zapolitsy.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
This version follows the main summer passage with a wet-area bypass near Gribchikha. Dry weather helps with sandy roads and tall grass but does not guarantee usable water crossings. Wet periods may bring mud and flooding. The winter ski passage near Gribchikha differs and should not replace the summer plan.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода

Equipment for selected permitted overnight places.
Food and drinking water; check completion of the Akhtyrsky Spring approach and water quality separately.
A map of shore branches, crossings and the chosen railway finish.
Rain protection, warmth, light, reserve phone power, first aid and seasonal insect protection.
