Route description

Ikonnikov Island offers an unusual outing near Biysk: a bike ride with two rivers on opposite sides of one island. The northern section faces the Biya and the southern section approaches the Katun, linked by dirt roads around the island. Take your time comparing the water, banks and occasional open views. The ride explores the island edge from the Ikonnikovo side. Weather matters here: dry ground invites further riding, while rain calls for a more cautious pace. Stop where the bank is actually accessible and leave time for the return. The famous Biya–Katun confluence lies elsewhere and is outside this outing.

The Biya–Katun confluence is a separate location west of this outing. Do not assume the island cycling itinerary reaches it; check access and visiting arrangements independently. Lake Kanonerskoye on the Ust-Katun side is better planned as another ride.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
A scheduled service directly to the island ride start has not been confirmed. Check transport to Ikonnikovo, bicycle carriage and the return journey before travelling. Do not rely on finding an improvised lift after finishing.
By car
Approach towards Ikonnikovo on the western side of the island. Check local road conditions and choose a meeting place before travelling. The ride end points do not coincide exactly, so plan your return to the car. Cycling dirt-road sections are not a guaranteed driving itinerary.
Parking
A designated car park at the island start has not been confirmed. Agree vehicle storage within the settlement and keep access routes open. Charges and security are unknown; an open riverbank area should not automatically be treated as authorised parking.

SurfaceDirt 67%, Dirt / grass 9%, Gravel 6%, Unknown 18%.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 h 26 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Island ride | Allow half a day with a margin Start by checking the road and agreeing return arrangements. Keep time for both Biya and Katun stops, as well as a relaxed ride between them. With damp ground, a time margin matters more than the number of stops. Return before darkness.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose a snow-free period with dry roads. After heavy rain or rising river levels, check island access conditions beforehand. Carry extra drinking water in hot weather and watch the remaining daylight as autumn approaches.
