Route description

From the Sasa side, the route enters northern Olkhon’s interior and gradually approaches Khoboy. Most of the walk follows the island road: open ground and junctions give way to the rocky northern ending. The start is outside Sasa Cape itself, and the finish remains at Khoboy. Arrange delivery to the southern side and collection after the walk independently. Khoboy changes the character of the journey. At its ending, island land narrows into a rocky cape with Baikal’s broad water ahead. Its name refers to the tooth-like projecting rock: khoboy means fang. Pause on the viewing side to observe the coast and changing light above the lake. Use authorised observation places on land and keep away from crumbling edges. This is an independent cape approach rather than the complete northern Olkhon sightseeing circuit. Sagan-Khushun, Uzury and the Guardian of Baikal are outside this version. Confirm permitted walking, road conditions and the Khoboy approach before departure. If a safe authorised connection or return is unprepared, choose a separately agreed section or finish early.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
For the change from Olkhon’s interior to one of its most distinctive rocky endings. The purpose is clear: reach Khoboy, observe the cape from land and spend unhurried time on the viewing side above Baikal. It suits walkers wanting an independent approach rather than brief stops at several different capes.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - With caution By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data For prepared walkers able to cover exposed island roads and move confidently on an uneven stony approach. The complete version is unsuitable as a short family viewpoint outing. Confirm park rules before bringing a dog and maintain control beside cliff edges. Cycling the entire line and the cape’s walking section is independently unverified. Reception, drinking water and assistance on every section are unestablished.

Nearby

Sasa Bay and Sasa Cape are separate from the precise inland-side start. Visiting their shore needs an independent approach; starting this crossing does not establish visits to both. Sagan-Khushun, also called Three Brothers, Shunte, Uzury and the Guardian of Baikal belong to different northern branches. Include them only with separately prepared routes and admission. A return through Uzury is outside this version. Khoboy’s feminine rock profile, associated with the name Deva, is described from the water. This walking approach does not promise that angle, a descent, boat excursion or ice access. Observe the rocky ending from a safe authorised land-side place. Confirm water, collection and possible early departure beforehand. Operating supplies or guaranteed overnight accommodation near the cape are unestablished.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Regular public transport to the exact Sasa-side start and from the Khoboy ending is unconfirmed. Agree delivery, a meeting place and return with the receiving party beforehand. Travelling to Khuzhir does not itself resolve access to this start. Early completion needs an independently agreed exit; avoid relying on a spare seat in a passing excursion vehicle.
By car
Prepare northern island delivery via Khuzhir, independently checking dirt-road conditions and vehicle admission. Direct collection to an agreed accessible place before the Khoboy walking section rather than the rocky tip. Confirm present vehicle approach to the Sasa side before travelling. Avoid new ruts, crossing steppe to bypass restrictions or unconfirmed descents towards water.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Agree lawful storage and collection with a local receiving party. The starting junction, open steppe and places beside cliff edges do not establish prepared parking. After observing Khoboy, walk back to a separately agreed collection point.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 508 м.
SurfaceDirt 77%, Compacted dirt 2%, Unknown 21%.
Риски The island road has junctions and uneven ground. Passing vehicles can raise dust in dry weather, while rain changes the surface. Select a safe walking side and a prepared authorised way. A direct rut across open ground does not establish a permitted shortcut. Khoboy’s cliff edges, unstable ground and gusts are hazardous. Avoid continuing down to water, bypassing barriers or seeking a photograph from the outermost slab. Omit the exposed tip in poor visibility, icing or strong wind. Obtain national park permission, check the direction’s present status and permitted travel types. Historical passage does not establish working boardwalks or complete present walking admission. If a safe authorised connection is unconfirmed, choose an independently prepared permitted section or finish early. Remove rubbish and food waste, and protect coastal vegetation.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 5 h 42 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
The full duration of this exact approach is unestablished. Its one-day classification describes the cape-bound stage and does not confirm return to the start within a day. Calculate delivery, inland-road walking, safe cape observation, the walk back to your meeting place and departure separately. Whole northern Olkhon excursion timings do not establish this version’s duration. Allow daylight reserves, carry water for the selected outing and agree turnaround conditions. Arrange check-in messages and a response to delay.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Snow-free conditions with a usable road, a calm forecast for the exposed cape and valid park admission. Sunshine on the interior road requires water and sun protection; Khoboy can feel much windier. Rain, wet stones and early icing complicate the ending. Fixed safe visiting dates are unestablished, so check current opening status before departure. Winter and lake-ice repeats of this walking version are independently unprepared.
