Route description

This Khuzhir-to-Uzury crossing reveals two different sides of Olkhon. It first follows the western island through Ulan-Khushin and Peschanaya, approaches Nyurganskaya Bay, then turns across the interior towards the eastern shore. Haga-Yaman Bay and open Baikal appear near Uzury. The ending continues beyond the village section to the northern coastal approach; prepare collection and return independently. The interest is the gradual change in island landscapes. Khuzhir’s streets give way to open ground and woodland roads before the shore opens again at Peschanaya. Nyurganskaya Bay offers sandy coastline; stay on permitted paths to protect fragile dune vegetation. The journey then turns towards the other island side, where Uzury’s bay lies between rocky slopes. Khoboy, Sagan-Khushun and the Guardian of Baikal sculpture are excluded from this version. Prepare the Uzury crossing itself, checking permitted walking, each chosen road, the coastal ending and overnight places. Some shore approaches and continuation beyond the village are unconfirmed as a prepared path. If safe authorised passage throughout is unestablished, choose a separately agreed stage with an independent return or finish early.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - With caution By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data For prepared walkers able to carry a pack across sand, open steppe ground and uneven woodland roads. The complete multi-day version is unsuitable as a short family walk. Tourist vehicles may use the roads; choose a safe walking side on site. With a dog, confirm park rules, water access and control throughout. Bicycle admission for this exact line and its shore branches is independently unconfirmed. Continuous reception and operating supplies throughout are not promised.

Nearby

Shamanka Rock, Burkhan Cape and Sarayskoye Ring need independent Khuzhir-side visits. Following the island road does not establish a beach or rock visit. Budun Cape lies off the nearest selected branch; an exact cape approach is unconfirmed. Sasa Cape and its bay, Sagan-Khushun, Khoboy, Shunte and the Guardian of Baikal belong to other northern outings and walking approaches. Include them only through separately prepared routes and permission. Uzury’s weather station and scientific facilities are unverified as visit places, accommodation or assistance. Tolgoy, Zhima and eastern cliff walks need independent preparation and admission. Avoid relying on Peschanaya’s former pier, currently mapped as dismantled. Museum or private-site entry, supplies, guest reception and return transport require separate confirmation with the receiving party. Nyurganskaya’s shore and sandy dunes are fragile environments; use permitted paths and avoid collecting plants.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Confirm arrival at the Khuzhir start and departure from the Uzury-side coastal ending separately. Avoid relying on a regular service between all intermediate places. Agree island arrival, a Khuzhir meeting point and eastern-side return beforehand. Uzury does not establish a public departure point, and the route continues beyond the village towards the shore. For early completion, prepare an independently agreed exit and confirmed departure.
By car
Khuzhir provides a land-arrangement side after an independently checked Olkhon crossing. Confirm island dirt-road conditions and vehicle admission towards Uzury before travelling. On the park’s northern route, avoid choosing new vehicle ruts or crossing steppe to bypass sand. Direct a collection vehicle only to an agreed accessible place; the coastal ending is unverified as a vehicle meeting area. A winter lake-ice descent is excluded.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Agree Khuzhir storage with the receiving party, and separately arrange an authorised meeting place at your selected ending. Sandy shores, dunes, a checkpoint and residential yards do not establish parking. Avoid leaving a vehicle beside fences or on Uzury shore branches without agreement.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceDirt 35%, Gravel 9%, Dirt / grass 7%, Unknown 45%.
Риски Sand, uneven branching roads, wind-exposed ground and selecting the eastern-shore turn are the main practical challenges. New vehicle ruts do not establish an authorised route. Distinguish the Uzury crossing from other northern branches; a nearby Khoboy road does not add the cape to your plan. Confirm each shore approach, permitted passage around village fences and the ending beyond Uzury independently. Without a confirmed authorised connection, select an independently prepared permitted stage, an agreed alternative exit or early completion. Avoid crossing fences or descending cliff edges towards water. The eastern side includes drops and unstable rocky ground. Obtain national park permission, check that the selected direction is open and verify permitted travel types. Fire restrictions can change daily. Agree tent places; historical campsite names and older reports do not establish present overnight arrangements. Prepare water, food and poor-weather exits beforehand. Protect sandy vegetation and remove food waste.

How much time to allow

Расчётное время в пути 14 h 22 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
The complete duration and a verified daily plan are unestablished. Prepare the multi-day arrangement for your walking pace, actual sand and roads, permitted shore approaches and agreed overnight places. Northern Olkhon vehicle excursion timings and unrelated bicycle trips do not establish the duration of this exact line. Agree permitted day endings, water, wind and rain reserves, and early-stopping conditions beforehand. Independently arrange return from Uzury or an earlier ending and check-in messages.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Snow-free conditions after checking roads, sandy sections and park admission. Exposed summer ground requires sun protection and drinking reserves. Strong wind and rain can hinder the interior crossing and eastern coastal section. A spring opening of another official northern route does not guarantee this complete version on your dates. Check present status and fire restrictions before travelling. Winter and lake-ice repeats are independently unprepared.
