Route description

This route reveals Sairamsu from top to bottom: from the stony basin of the Upper Lake to the spring-fed Lower Lake, then the river and lower gorge. Each lake has its own character. The Upper Lake occupies a double basin, while the clear water of the Lower Lake lets you see its bed. Water travels beneath the moraine between them, so there may be no visible stream linking the shores. The descent gives you time to notice these details before the high mountain stones give way to juniper and birch in the valley. Seeing how the lakes and Sairamsu River belong to the same system is the heart of this journey.

What to expect

Places
Upper Sairamsu Lake A double-basin lake fed by glacier meltwater, with water draining beneath the moraine in late autumn.
Lower Sairamsu Lake Water reaches it beneath the stony moraine and emerges through springs; its clear water reveals the lake bed.
Sairamsu River Below the lakes, the flow emerges again beneath the rubble and gathers tributaries through the gorge.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 4 м.
SurfaceDirt 69%, Unknown 31%.
Риски Take particular care on the rocky ground between the lakes, especially when descending after rain. Check bridges and stream crossings along the lower path. The lake water is cold, and entering it requires a check of both conditions and the permitted visitor rules. Snow in the upper basin or a thunderstorm can require a change of plan.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 3 h 20 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow roughly 4–6 hours for the descent with lakeside stops, an estimate based on this version. The ascent to the Upper Lake is additional. An overnight plan agreed with the park can be more practical than compressing the approach and descent into a short outing.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Prefer summer or early autumn after a local check of snow and weather. The appearance and level of the lakes depend on seasonal meltwater; the Upper Lake can lose much of its water in late autumn. Spring flowers in the lower valley do not guarantee snow-free conditions above.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Grippy hiking boots and poles for the descent.
Sun and rain protection, a warm layer and drinking water.
Bring appropriate camping equipment if staying overnight. Save an offline map and confirm the plan with park staff.
