Route description

In upper Djuuku valley, the journey gradually gathers around the pass. The northern approach runs beside Dunguromo Lake, before the Terskey Ala-Too saddle becomes the main objective. This variant already starts high in the mountains: Issyk-Kul’s resort shore and the lower road are separate parts of the expedition. Djuuku is known as an old crossing towards the inner Tian Shan. At the pass, Arabel comes into view beyond the northern valley, opening a different high landscape with glacial ranges on the horizon. The path then descends towards Arabel-Suu, linking the northern lake approach with the southern syrt. It suits a prepared group interested in the range’s natural connections and old passages. Agree both snow conditions and the entire high-country exit before departure.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No data With a dog - No data By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The start is in an upper mountain valley and needs a separate approach. Historical caravan use does not establish suitability for children, dogs or modern bicycles. The pass is unsuitable for strollers. Mobile coverage throughout the journey has not been established.

Nearby

Djukuchak hot springs are in a neighbouring valley and require a separate visit. Chokoly Lakes are farther into Arabel and cannot be added without another continuation. Ask a local organiser about high-country road access and neighbouring areas near Kumtor.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
No regular connection to the high start or from the southern endpoint has been verified. Arrange arrival at southern Issyk-Kul, then discuss drop-off or the Djuuku walking approach with a local host. Beyond the pass, an independent Arabel syrt exit is needed; agree collection, alternatives and a return deadline beforehand.
By car
Access from Issyk-Kul’s south shore reaches an agreed lower point. Ask a local driver about the mountain road, bridges and turning space. The high start and pass are not guaranteed vehicle access. Arrange a separate southern collection on the syrts under current territorial restrictions.
Parking
Confirmed long-stay vehicle storage for this divide crossing has not been established. Agree a lower host and how to retrieve the vehicle after leaving the southern side. Vehicle storage and responsibility are separate arrangements from mountain camping.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 845 м.
SurfaceDirt 53%, Unknown 47%.
Риски Snow, stony slopes and stream crossings may affect the northern approach and pass. Historic caravan travel does not establish today’s path, bridges or ice conditions. A leader must check snow and ice sections, the crossing plan and alternative exits. At the lake stay on stable shore, avoiding slippery waterside stones; do not choose the descent in poor visibility.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 6 h 31 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
This is a high-mountain pass stage; count the complete programme with its northern approach and southern exit. Arrange overnight stops before and after the divide and allow reserve for snow and weather. Longer horse tours through Djuuku and Arabel use different programmes and do not establish this independent section’s exact duration.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
A summer mountain window is preferable when Djuuku conditions are confirmed. The calendar does not replace checking snowfields, cold nights and water levels. Early summer and autumn snowfall need consultation with a local leader; winter travel requires a different plan and equipment.
