Route description

Saimaluu-Tash draws walkers to stones bearing images from different periods: animals, people and geometric forms turn a mountain basin into an open-air archaeological collection. This crossing approaches from the Kök-Art side, passes the petroglyph complex and small Jürö-Köl Lake, then continues over the Fergana watershed. The archaeological site is the heart of the journey rather than a passing stop. Allow time to study the carved details instead of rushing towards the far side of the pass. Choose a careful path between the stones, avoid stepping on carved surfaces and leave everything as you found it. The southern exit requires separate arrangements: the usual excursion from Kazarman returns along its approach, while this walk continues across the mountains.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data This is a full mountain crossing past an archaeological complex rather than a short excursion. Mountain experience and an agreed exit on the far side are needed. Dog rules have not been verified; a bicycle or stroller is unsuitable for this walking crossing.

Nearby

Kazarman is useful for arranging a guide and transport before the visit. Saimaluu-Tash is on UNESCO’s Tentative List, which is different from inscription on the World Heritage List. Other sides of the Fergana Range need separate logistics and are not automatically accessible after visiting the complex.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
No scheduled service to the mountain start has been confirmed. Arrange transport from the Kazarman side and collection beyond the crossing beforehand. The standard CBT petroglyph excursion returns to its approach point and does not provide an exit from the far side of this itinerary.
By car
Agree a drop-off on the Kök-Art valley approach with a local driver. Discuss the current road and where walking begins. Arrange southern collection separately; vehicle access through the archaeological area has not been established.
Parking
No dedicated parking place at the mountain start has been verified. If using your own car, agree storage with a local host. Do not leave it beside an arbitrary stream crossing or on a pasture access road.

What to expect

Places
Saimaluu-Tash Petroglyphs The archaeological complex preserves animal, human and geometric images from different periods. Move carefully between the stones without touching or altering the carvings.
Jürö-Köl Lake This small mountain lake lies beside the petroglyph approach. Pause at the shore before continuing towards the watershed; a managed campsite has not been confirmed.
Saimaluu-Tash Stream The stream runs through the high basin between the archaeological area and the pass side. It distinguishes the valley approach from the onward mountain crossing; assess any water crossing locally.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 1461 м.
SurfaceDirt 1%, Unknown 99%.
Риски Snow, wet stones and mud may affect the climb; CBT warns of these conditions even on the usual approach. A crossing beyond the complex requires prior confirmation of the southern descent and safe exit. Do not cross a dangerous stream simply to keep to the plan. Never move stones, add inscriptions or light fires within the archaeological site.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 9 h 28 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
For the complete crossing and a considered visit, allow around 2–3 days with camping after both sides have been confirmed locally. The two-day excursion from Kazarman is a different out-and-back itinerary. Reserve a substantial part of a day for the petroglyphs and add weather contingency.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Plan the petroglyph visit for July or August: CBT links this narrow window to snow in the high mountains. Recent reports on the approach and saddle are still needed. Keep extra time available in early July and late August, and do not assume an autumn crossing will be possible.

What to bring

Mountain walking boots and trekking poles
Tent, warm sleeping bag and sleeping mat
Waterproof clothing and a warm layer
