Route description

Confirm the Urushten valley continuation, overnight stays and lake branches with the Caucasus Reserve first: opening the path to the ledge does not establish access to every extension. After the woodland approach, Bear Gates lead towards Bzerpinsky Ledge’s mountain side. The meadow shelf continues towards Pseashkha Pass, where a war memorial recalls the Caucasus defenders. The journey then follows the valley, with the Urushten, Maloye Lake and Kholodny Camp providing its main stops. Additional branches lead towards the Dzitaku lakes and the Kholodnaya headwaters, so confirm each one before choosing the complete version. The lake branch reveals several closely neighbouring waters, while returning towards the ledge changes the perspective on familiar mountain forms.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
Bzerpinsky Ledge, Pseashkha and Maloye Lake link a mountain shelf with the Urushten valley. Separate Dzitaku permission adds several closely spaced lakes. Give each authorised section time rather than hurrying between the different branches.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - Patchy The start requires a cable-car and walking approach. The complete version with remote mountain branches is not recommended as an ordinary children’s outing; assess a shorter permitted ledge walk separately. Pets are prohibited. The official passport reports partial coverage without guaranteeing all branches.

Nearby

Kholodny Glacier lies beyond the upper approach’s endpoint and is not included as a visited object; reaching ice requires a separate technical plan. Tabunnaya South and Bzerpi summits are not obligatory stops merely because they neighbour the ledge. An independent connection between Dzitaku and the glacier side is unconfirmed: return along the familiar authorised branch.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The official passport links the approach to the Laura or Alpika resort cable cars towards Pikhtovaya Polyana. Continue from the upper station on an independent walking approach to the reserve path. Confirm current hours, the required line’s operation and return descent with the operator; a regular bus directly to Bear Gates is unconfirmed.
By car
Permitted private vehicle access directly to the ledge, lakes or Kholodny Camp is unconfirmed. Arrange the lower resort journey, then use an agreed ascent and walking approach. Do not plan driving along the reserve path.
Parking
Vehicle parking at the mountain start is unconfirmed. Establish lawful arrangements for your chosen lower resort approach with the operator; tent camps do not establish vehicle facilities.

What to expect

Places
Bear Gates The mountain entrance area introducing the direction towards Bzerpinsky Ledge.
Bzerpinsky Ledge A meadow shelf before the Pseashkha and Urushten continuation; overnight stays require current permission.
Caucasus Defenders Memorial A war memorial on the Pseashkha approach, recalling the defence of the Caucasus.
Pseashkha Pass A broad mountain saddle between the ledge section and the Urushten valley continuation.
Maloye Lake A mountain lake beside the main valley corridor, distinct from the small lake of the Dzitaku group.
Urushten River The main valley’s river, followed towards Kholodny Camp.
Kholodny Camp The main itinerary’s valley tent stop; confirm current overnight access when obtaining permission.
Small Dzitaku Lake A separate small lake on the upper group’s eastern side, on a branch requiring individual authorisation.
Upper Lake (Dzitaku) The compact upper Dzitaku group’s northern lake, approached beside its neighbouring waters.
Two-Faced Lake (Dzitaku) A separate lake south of Upper Lake, on the same short upper lake branch.
Big Dzitaku Lake An elongated lake east of the small upper group, with the side branch approaching its shore.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски High traverses, snow and fog require experience and care; turn back from unsafe snowy slopes. Early in the 2026 season the reserve allowed only the upper ledge approach without camping, so confirm current valley, camp and branch permission separately. Avoid an improvised cross-slope connection between Dzitaku and the Kholodnaya headwaters. Pets, swimming and camping outside authorised places are prohibited. The official passport requires at least three participants or a guide; confirm current conditions when obtaining permission.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 5 h 55 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
A day-by-day plan for this complete branched multiday version is not established. The main itinerary’s official passport offers programmes of 1–5 days, which cannot automatically apply to every lake and upper branch. Agree walking days, authorised camps and the return: begin near Bear Gates, then follow the ledge and Pseashkha into the Urushten valley towards Kholodny; side visits return to the main corridor. Add the lower lift approach and eventual return separately. If permission covers only a day visit to the ledge, choose that shorter outing.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
The passport gives June–October broadly, with exact dates governed by orders and snow. Prefer a stable summer window once every required section opens. The 24 June 2026 restrictions describe that season’s early conditions, rather than an established prohibition throughout October. Confirm the current permitted itinerary, snow and overnight arrangements before departure.

What to bring
