Route description

The journey from the Kumukh side towards Koroda brings together different images of mountain Dagestan. At Turchi, attention turns to old houses; at Salta Waterfall, to water and enclosed rock. On the Gunib side, Aivazovsky Glade changes the perspective and invites a slower approach to the historic places ahead. Baryatinsky Gate, Shamil’s Gazebo and the Royal Tunnel make the Gunib section particularly rich. Alternate walking with pauses instead of rushing between names. The final path towards Koroda is more demanding than ordinary Gunib sightseeing and needs settled dry weather and appropriate experience. If conditions prevent continuing, finishing in Gunib is preferable to taking risks on a narrow mountain path.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 d 27 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow several trekking days, overnight places and time for Salta and Gunib. Do not leave Gunib’s historic places for the final hour of daylight. Decide about continuing towards Koroda in advance from the forecast and keep a reserve for a safe finish in Gunib.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose settled dry weather. Autumn suits a sustained journey, but check overnight conditions separately. Snow is possible in May and October. Rain is particularly significant before the final Koroda section; an attractive season does not make it safe.
