Route description

This traverse explores a remote side of the Katun Range, leaving the upper Tekelu area across Sullu-Boch and Suluayry towards the Argut valley. It feels like a passage between distinct mountain worlds: saddles give way to a long descent towards the river, while ridges separate valleys that must be reached on foot. Sullu-Boch is a defining point of this line; the separate Suluayry saddle then introduces another stage on the way to the Argut. The river changes the character of the final stretch, replacing successive passes with an extended valley. Choose this side of the Altai for its remoteness from the familiar visitor approaches. It suits experienced self-supported hikers who want several days in a large mountain landscape, rather than simply reaching a famous lake. Arrange passage through national park territory with its administration before setting out.

Route at a glance

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
A separate mountain approach or arranged transfer is needed. This variant requires an experienced trekking group; family suitability and cycling are unconfirmed. Check the park's rules on dogs. Do not rely on uninterrupted mobile coverage.

Nearby

Akkem Lake and the Yarlu valley lie beyond the other side of the pass approach; visiting them means extending or changing the complete hike. Kara-Tyurek, Kucherla and Tyungur belong to the western continuation of the longer journey, not to this section's attractions.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
This high-mountain section begins far from settlements. First choose the complete walking approach from the Akkem or Argut side, then arrange arrival and exit with a local organiser. Reaching a base village does not replace the mountain approach; no complete regular transport connection to this start has been confirmed.
By car
The passes cannot be reached by car. Driving logistics concern the starting settlement of the complete expedition; arrange any Argut road approach and onward transfer with the organiser and park administration. Do not expect a continuous vehicle road along this line.
Parking
A confirmed long-stay vehicle storage place for this plan has not been established. Agree one in the base settlement before the complete expedition; discuss conditions, security and collection with the host. The high start requires a separate walking approach.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The main tasks are pass slopes, navigation in lightly visited terrain and choosing safe water crossings. A horse-tour description is not proof of a walking group's capabilities. Agree the itinerary and obtain permission for Sailugem National Park; check border-zone requirements for the complete approach. Include an emergency exit, reserve food and a way to communicate without mobile coverage.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 20 h 51 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Plan a multi-day hike with overnight camps and a weather reserve, adding the approach and exit days. A confirmed camp-by-camp schedule for this specific section is unavailable. The ten-day Great Mountain Journey programme covers other stages and transport; its duration is not the walking time of this traverse.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
For the original journey, the national park recommends the second half of June, July, August and the first half of September, according to pass snow and river levels. Check actual conditions at Sullu-Boch and Suluayry with local guides for this section. The seasonal window does not guarantee a safe passage on a particular day; its beginning and end require greater allowance for cold and bad weather.
