Route description

Sullu-Boch and Suluayry reveal a quiet side of the Katun Range. The journey begins in the upper Tekelu area and gradually leads towards the Argut valley. You get to know these mountains on foot: crossing a watershed, descending into the next valley and climbing towards another saddle. Each pass becomes a separate chapter of the hike. At Tekelu, the mountain stream draws your attention; at Sullu-Boch and Suluayry, the reward is the transition between neighbouring valleys. The Argut becomes the main landmark of the final stretch, flowing between mountain slopes. For an experienced group, this is a chance to spend several days in a remote part of the Altai and follow the change from pass approaches to a river valley. Choose the complete approach, camps and road exit in advance, and agree access with Sailugem National Park.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
To connect the upper Tekelu area, two Katun Range passes and the Argut valley in one hike. Sullu-Boch and Suluayry shape the succession of mountain stages, followed by the river section along the Argut. This traverse rewards hikers who enjoy discovering a region through its neighbouring valleys.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data Suitable for experienced multi-day hikers prepared for passes, water crossings and self-supported camps. We do not recommend this traverse for an ordinary family outing, cycling or a stroller. Ask the park administration about bringing a dog. A confirmed mobile coverage map is unavailable; arrange a communication method for this remote area before departure.

Nearby

Akkem Lake and the Yarlu valley lie beyond the approach over Yarlu-Boch; visiting them adds a separate mountain stage. Argut village, also known as Arkyt, lies farther along the river valley and may form part of the exit plan. Include these places in the complete itinerary in advance: they are substantial additions between pass days. Kucherla Lake and Kara-Tyurek belong to a more distant continuation of the journey.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The beginning lies in the mountains, away from settlements, and requires a walking approach within a longer itinerary. First decide how you will reach the upper Tekelu area, then arrange transport to the starting village. Operators use access through Kosh-Agach and Dzhazator for the Argut side, with a separately arranged transfer. No regular public service to the mountain start has been confirmed.
By car
A car can take you to the starting village of the complete expedition. Continue to Tekelu and the passes on foot. Access on the Argut village side uses off-road transport; agree road conditions and the meeting point with the driver. The village itself is beyond this traverse, so plan how to reach your vehicle after the final river section.
Parking
Arrange vehicle storage in the settlement where the complete hike begins; there is no road approach to the pass start. Agree a long-stay arrangement and your return from the Argut side. No secured parking facility has been confirmed for this specific plan. A roadside space on a map is insufficient evidence of an agreed long-stay parking place.

What to expect

Places
Tekelu the mountain stream at the beginning of the traverse, before the approach to the first saddle.

Suluayry the next saddle between the high mountain valleys and the descent towards the Argut.
Argut River the large mountain river followed during the final part of the journey.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.

Риски Sullu-Boch and Suluayry require confident movement on mountain slopes and careful route finding. Scree, remaining snow and high water can change the conditions even in summer. Establish which water crossings your group will face and how to handle them at the current water level. Allow for steep riverside terrain in the Argut valley. Agree the traverse with a guide who knows the area, choose camps and emergency exits, and avoid rushing over the passes to compensate for poor weather.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 20 h 53 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow several trekking days plus a weather reserve. Plan the approach to upper Tekelu and the exit from the Argut to transport separately. Keep pass days free of rigid evening commitments and choose permitted camps before departure. The national park offers a longer Great Mountain Journey programme, but its total duration includes other valleys and does not determine the time for this section. A verified camp-by-camp schedule for this traverse is not yet available.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
The national park lists a season from the second half of June to the first half of September for the related itinerary. Within that window, obtain recent information about snow patches and water crossings on Sullu-Boch and Suluayry. The Argut valley has a wetter summer than the park's steppe areas, so prepare for rain and cold nights. Early and late departures need particularly careful checks of pass conditions.
