Route description

Two large lakes give this journey contrasting moods. Akkem lies below the northern side of Belukha, inviting a pause on the shore while gaps appear in the clouds. Kucherla comes later, beyond Kara-Tyurek Pass, and changes the shape of the walk: instead of simply returning along a familiar valley, there is another lakeshore and a new descent beside the Kucherla River. Allow time between the lakes for separate walks. Yarlu leads to Stone City and Roerich Stone, places best explored thoughtfully and with respect for their significance to other visitors. Another outing climbs from the Akkem side towards the Valley of Seven Lakes, while the southern valley gives an approach towards the glacier area. Choose these walks around the weather and your energy, leaving enough daylight to return to camp. On the Kucherla descent, Kuylyu Grotto brings an unexpected encounter with a much older world. Its rock carvings offer a different sense of time from the passing days of the trek. Akkem, Yarlu, Kucherla Lake and the petroglyphs create a varied journey below Belukha, deserving an unhurried pace and careful preparation.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - With caution With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data For prepared mountain trekkers. Children need experience of prolonged walking and suitable daily stages. Ask the nature park about dogs. Do not plan around dependable mobile reception on the pass or in the upper valleys.

Nearby

Akkem Glacier lies above the lake. The valley walk approaches its area, while stepping onto the ice or climbing Belukha requires a separate plan. Lower Kucherla Lake lies off the main shore and needs an additional approach. Visit the Valley of Seven Lakes within an agreed excursion day; farther pools are not compulsory stops merely because of the valley’s name.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Vysotnik publishes access via Ust-Koksa with prearranged onward transport to Tyungur. Check current services and book the final connection; some published departure details refer to a previous season. Arrival in the village still leaves the walking approach to Akkem.
By car
End the road journey in Tyungur. Vysotnik is on Zarechnaya Street; agree arrival with the host if using its services. Mountain walking begins beyond the village. A local vehicle transfer may change the start, so arrange it separately from the complete walking version over Kuzuyak.
Parking
Vysotnik lists paid parking for passenger cars. Agree storage for the whole trek and check current conditions beforehand. Do not assume permission to use someone else’s yard or leave a vehicle beside the mountain path.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 2148 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Allow time and energy for Kara-Tyurek, checking snow, wind and descent conditions before crossing. Rain makes stones and steep ground less reliable. Agree return times and turnaround limits for the separate excursions. Approaching the glacier valley does not establish readiness to walk on ice; that needs its own decision and preparation. Arrange nature-park entry under current rules and check border formalities for the intended stages.

How much time to allow

Расчётное время в пути 1 d 8 h
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Main format | a multi-day trek with separate excursions Plan the Tyungur to Akkem stages first, then days for chosen excursions, Kara-Tyurek and the Kucherla descent including its lakeshore. Avoid treating every walk around Akkem as one compulsory day. Keep spare time for poor weather and allow separately for arrival and departure.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose dates according to current conditions on Kara-Tyurek and in the upper valleys. Even in the warmer season, prepare for rain and cold nights. At either end of the season, ask about pass snow, bridges and the availability of agreed accommodation. Select excursion days with useful visibility.
