Route description

From the upper Podu Giurgiului valley junction, the path climbs along Orzăneaua Mare to Orzănele Saddle. Its lower part retains the character of a valley walk; higher up, rocky thresholds and the mountain bowl become clearer. The defining moment is joining the main Făgăraș path, where another side of the ridge appears beyond the saddle. Follow red triangles and check direction before the final ascent, where the path becomes less distinct. Moldoveanu summit lies beyond this passage. Reaching the upper-valley start requires a separate approach, followed by a planned return or continuation from the saddle.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The start lies in an upper valley after a separate approach. Nearby

Moldoveanu and Viștea Mare lie outside this ascent to the saddle and need a separate ridge continuation. Podragu is another mountain-path direction; accommodation and the hut approach are not included.

Time for the route 2.5–3.5 h
With stops | 3.5–4.5 h This covers the ascent from the upper Podu Giurgiului valley junction to Orzănele Saddle. The lengthy Buda approach and subsequent return are excluded. A walk from the road valley needs a separate complete plan rather than this section’s allowance.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Plan the walking version during snow-free conditions with settled weather. Check for lingering snow on the upper threshold and thunderstorms; set a turnaround time before entering open high terrain.
