Route description

From Cleopatra Saddle, the yellow stripe leads into Căldarea Pietroasă and onward towards Șerbota. This is the Custura Sărății bypass: the rocky world of Făgăraș remains nearby, while the passage runs below the chained crest. Descending and climbing again reveals glacial thresholds and large boulders on the grassy bowl floor. The bypass is not an easy stroll: stones can move underfoot and wet rock demands caution. Both endpoints are already in the mountains, requiring prearranged approaches and an exit towards a hut or valley.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data Reaching the saddle start already requires a mountain approach. The bypass remains steep and exposed to loose stones despite avoiding the neighbouring chained crest. It is unsuitable for an ordinary family outing.

Nearby

Custura Sărății is a separate neighbouring chained crest with different movement requirements and is excluded here. Negoiu summit and Negoiu hut likewise need additional passages beyond this section.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 312 м.
SurfaceDirt 94%.
Риски Avoid dislodging loose stones onto people below. Steep thresholds and wet rock require secure footing; do not continue without a clear direction in poor visibility. The rescue service classifies the bypass as hard and lists winter closure. Avoiding chains does not make it safe during thunderstorms.

How much time to allow

Time for the route 2–3 h
With stops | 3–4 h This covers the Cleopatra-to-Șerbota passage through Căldarea Pietroasă. Add mountain approaches, a return passage and onward hut descent separately. The author’s time describes the opposite direction; the allowance includes careful travel on steep ground.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose snow-free conditions with dry rock and settled weather. Postpone after rain. The rescue service lists this section closed in winter; a summer description is not a plan for snow travel.

What to bring
